The Lord Louis is a small pub, and is full of ‘regulars’. It’s pretty intimidating and it’s mid-High Street location doesn’t help it — there’s no garden, no courtyard and some awkwardly placed tables and chairs on the pavement outside so it just looks unwelcoming and is completely family-unfriendly. They do their best, with a quiz night and a good selection of beers, and they show live sport too so it’s not all bad ;-) Actually, it’s not ‘bad’ at all, just not great. It competes with two other pubs in a very small village High Street, and that’s the problem. One of the pubs(The Red Lion) has a huge garden and the pub itself is pretty big anyway, and the other(The Jolly Fisherman) is large, and is sat directly next to the river, so the Lord Louis finds itself in a difficult position, especially given the rapidly declining number of pub drinkers. Also, it constantly seems to have problems with being able to provide food — this just adds another obstacle to it being successful. It’s a Fullers pub, and maybe it needs them to inject a bit of cash to make this pub something, anything, but until then there is nothing to either recommend or put off The Lord Louis.
