Stayed here for a night on Saturday. Only decided I needed a hotel for the night a week before, so didn’t expect to find much in the way of availability, particularly when most other hotels I looked at wanted a minimum 2 night stay, the Cromwell was happy with just 1 one. The origianl double room I wanted had been let by the time I came to confirm to took a family room instead for the same price c.£100. When we arrived were were taken to the room(#16) which was effectively in the basement of the main building. As a consequence there was quite a strong smell of damp. This is only a 2 star hotel, but it this room was looking a bit tired, and to be honest I was glad I was only staying the night. The lock on the door didn’t look very secure as a couple of the screws were loose and I’m sure with one hard kick it could easily have been broken into. When it came to getting some sleep I became away of another disadvantage of this room and that was being directly under the guest lounge room. I could pretty much hear the conversations pretty well, and each and every footstep that was taken. Breakfast was ok, but the eastern europeans working the shift struggled with some of the order. That said, the hotel is in a fantastic location on the way to Lulworth Cove, which is only 2 mins walk down the road. Durdle Dorr can also be very easily reached from here too.
