There aren’t enough words to describe how much I love Chequers Inn! It is definitely the best pub in Ware(and in my opinion, the world!) This place isn’t a corporate-type chain, but a wooden-beamed, crooked doorways, real, actual pub. Some reasons to love it: 1. Chequers is so cozy. There is a big fireplace and soft cushy chairs and sofas to lounge in. Even the dining room is warm and friendly and feels more like your grandma’s house than a pub. 2. The menu. It is fabulous. There are a few favourites that you can always get, but there are always new dishes as well. They also have a vegetarian AND vegan menu – vegan friendly meals seem to be a rarity and I was impressed to find so many options. I’ve tried many different meals here and have never once had one that I didn’t like! On the one occasion I wasn’t keen on the options, they offered to make me something else. 3. The game room. Next to the bar is a small room packed with books, cards and board games. I’m a big-time sucker for a good board game and have wasted many an hour playing Scrabble in here. Everything about Chequers is welcoming and we’re always happy to go back. Even my dog is welcomed with a bigh dish of water and last time was personally greeted by the owner. Definitely a winner for me!

Good friendly locals pub always with an interesting guest ale or cider on tap — they have Stowford Press on now. Open fires in winter and a fairly decent menu of pub grub, with veggie options. Not very child friendly — don’t take your little darlings unless they know how to behave. So if you want a quiet pint this is the place to go!
