It’s been a long time since we’ve been here. We remembered that our last visit was very good indeed. So it was in search of a very good and relaxed Sunday lunch that brought us back here; that’s exactly what we got. We were in comfortable surroundings and cosy. The Sunday lunch menu is a delight; thankfully it isn’t typical Sunday lunch fare with mains featuring pasta, fish & chips and beef burgers, but for the traditionalists there’s turkey & ham and a posh stuffed pork fillet. I’m getting ahead of myself. We began with the Fusion fishcake and the goat cheese salad. Both were very good; the fishcake was a good portion, topped with a lightly poached egg, so once broken the yolk became a sauce and complemented the chilli & saffron mayo emulsion. The mayo seems made on the premises rather than out of a jar. The salad was well balanced. It had just enough goats cheese crumbled in. The tart cheese tang was complemented by a light dressing and delicious caramelised walnut halves. Red onion and tiny tomatoes added extra flavours and textures. I opted for the fish & chips. My wife had the posh pork. The fish portion was generous, I thought the waitress said it was haddock but I thought it was hake. Anyway it was tasty enough. The fish would have been even better had it been seasoned before being battered, and the batter was quite good. I’d much prefer a tempura style batter though and the plates of food here demonstrate that the chef here knows their stuff so tempura would be a breeze. The chips were ace. The pork main was divine. Pork belly like a scotch egg, the fillet stuffed with black pudding on a bed of deep green cabbage — who wants the usual roast pork Sunday lunch when you can have this. We then had room for one brownie dessert between two — again it was superb. Warm brownies, light as air honeycomb, mini meringues and fresh fruits. Very good cappuccino and latte finished off the meal. Great company, great food, comfy place, cheerful staff and darn good value. What’s not to like and we won’t leave it as long to return.
