Madeira Cafe

The coffee there is fantastic, I think the best in Southend, but the girl that serves it is so sulky and sour faced it spoils it for you. If she could learn to actually smile it would brighten the whole place and make give it a far better atmosphere

This is simply a great café early in the morning, you know how it feels? The hangover is not too bad, the sun is out and you have emerged early, and need a coffee and a chill pill. The Madeira Café is brill, it sits nearly at the bottom of Hamlet Court Road on the right hand side as you face the estuary. The sun sits perfectly at this time of day for a bit of warm basking. Read the paper, watch the world go by or just recharge, whatever the need Leonardo runs a tight ship here with attentive staff and regulars that keep this business ticking over comfortably. One of two Portuguese Cafes within 20 metres of each other, and right opposite the Hamlet Court Pub which might have provided the hangover in the first place
