I have recently visited the bucket and spade and found it be good value, good food and a happy smiley team. The drinks are a bit steep but all in all a good experience. I believe there has been a change in management since the last reviews.

If i could this place would also get a 0*. Crap food. Crap Staff. Crap management. Also finding dog excrement by your table is very off putting. The manager has 2 dogs who before and after service sometimes during would be left to run free in the pub. The Bucket & Spade is an unhygienic and unsafe place to eat. Avoid at all costs even if it means venturing further to eat! This place should be closed down for good!!!

every time me and my whole family have been, its almost a disaster, the food took an hour to come out and that was just the starters, they do not have enough staff and the wait for a drink is frustrating, it annoys me most as we had it booked in advance so should have been organised properly, the place is always almost empty, i wonder why? , the kids love the play house i must say. the kids enjoy it, i would still go again but an hour early so i am not starving hungry, love the steak knifes though !

The place just gets worse every time we visit; food is not good and just dumped on the plates also taking a long time to reach your table from the time you order and that’s when the place is empty, looking a bit tired and in need of some sort of refit however can’t see that happening, the place is mostly empty because of the bad reputation it’s getting. My advice is going elsewhere until they solve the problem, be aware stay away(Great place for kids as they seem to have a full run of the pub)

I’m sat in the Bucket & Spade writing this review right now. I have got issues with my internet connection at the moment(I use a dongle), and this is the closest place to where I’m staying at the moment. The Bucket & Spade is not the kind of place that I would naturally gravitate towards, and as I came here on a recommendation, I really had no idea what to expect. Obviously the name gave me a fair idea that it might be family friendly… and that it most certainly is! The place was rammed with dining families when I got here, and yes, some of the kids were running around enjoying their sugar hits like there was no tomorrow, but, strangely, I didn’t mind… I really like the place! This is mainly due to the fact that the staff are amazingly friendly and professional, and have helped me get connected to the internet when it was clear that i was experiencing difficulty, and they have also allowed me to Skype my friend in Sweden without complaining. That’s stellar service for you! They have a great indoor play area with all the trappings… climbing frames and ball pits etc etc… There’s room enough for 150 children in there, and so it’s pretty darned big. The Deputy Manager is called Steve… give him a shout out when you come here!

Its cheap and cheerful, a bit like wetherspoons food but a good place to go with family and children as its quite informal and the kids can run around. No the food isnt brilliant but its 2 for £10 and for the price it is standard tasty food. Not much character but I didnt really want a top knotch food with a nooks and crannies shabby chic restaurant when eating out with grandparents and a two year old.

My daughter was scalded very badly by a cup of coffee purchased in the play area in a lidless cardboard cup! After 2 days at Frenchay Burns Unit including my daughter going into theatre under general anaesthetic, I contacted the pub to see why First Aid was not given. I was told it is company policy not to have First Aid available for fear of litigation should they do something wrong! I was gobsmacked to say the least prompt First Aid would have limited the damage but because it was not available my daughters summer holidays are ruined. I won’t ever set foot back inside any pub owned by this company who put fear of litigation as a higher priority than the safety of the children on their premises.

Very cheap food deals always available so good if you need to feed a crowd of people. Food not always very good though, focus seems to be on quantity rather than quality. The attached play area is ok for slightly older children although I’d be reluctant to let my under 5s loose there as cleanliness and and supervision seems to be poor. They also do childrens parties and have parties for occassions like halloween although I don’t think their organisational skills are particularly good and these events can often be very chaotic.

If there’s one thing I like its a good pub, and the other thing is a place where I can see my little boys’ faces lighting up as they play in safe surroundings. So, imagine my delight at having found The Bucket and Spade situated just off the M5 towards Weston-super-Mare! This pub not only has a two-for-one offer on its very tasty and well-presented adult meals, but one unique feature sure to put a smile on your face — The Fun House children’s indoor play area. [Open: Term-times: Monday — Friday 11am — 9pm. Saturday & Sunday 9.30am — 9pm. School Holidays: 9.30am — 9pm. Last admissions 1 hour before closing] This soft play zone caters for all ages up to teens, and has enough variety and adventure built in to keep your kids happy for the hours play that your £2.50 buys them. The funhouse also caters for kid’s parties at very reasonable rates, and has special mother and toddler times set aside for quieter fun play for the younger ones. Drinks are served for kiddies and grown-ups in the funhouse itself, but with a pub next door your next port of call is inevitably going to be the restaurant. And, so it should be! The grubs here is lovely and good value for money. They even accomodated my eldest’s picky tastes by swapping items on the menu to suit him personally. Full disabled and children’s changing facilities are available, and even another outdoor play area with seating, patio heaters and sun-shades for better weather. Carlsberg don’t make rural pubs — but if they did they’d make this one!
