Very good fish(4.5 out of 5) but terrible chips(1.5 out of 5). The chips are edible but very soggy. Not the worst chips of my life but it’s getting there. Unfortunately if you dine in you are not allowed to order fish without the chips. So basically we just ate the fish and had to leave the chips alone. We went there for twice and same story both times. Service is a bit variable. One of the waitress was very nice but another was quite rude. Given the number of fish and chips shops around, I don’t think we will be returning to this one for a while.

Whenever I make a trip to the coast, I always to try find a good fish and chips place. This was my 2nd trip to Weymouth and remembered how busy Bennett’s was at the time so wanted to try this place for lunch. As a tip, if you plan to eat in the restaurants, there is a separate menu. If the weather was nicer we would’ve taken it to go and ate it outside but it was a bit too overcast. My husband and I ordered a large cod and chips along with the king prawns. This might be standard fish and chips from this region but coming from London — it was so good. I am quite glad we don’t have a place like this nearby so we don’t go too often. The king prawns were okay — I’d probably just stick to the fish. Lastly, we ordered a spam fritter — as you can imagine it’s a piece of spam deep fried in batter — so good if you’re a fan of spam! I was tempted to get the deep fried mars bar as its something I’ve wanted to try forever but felt a bit fried out. So if you’re visiting Weymouth, definitely give this place a try.

The food was good. However, the young girl serving at the till was ever so rude. We came in with 2 young children and whilst we were collating their orders the girl was tapping her fingernails on the counter showing signs of impatience(for the record — there was no-one behind us in the queue). We also asked for food to be boxed yet she brought them over to the outside window counter open. When we mentioned this she was rolling her eyes and without any panache started chucking the food into the boxes. I finally asked her if she was a family member of this acclaimed award winning family run business for 20+ years. she said«no» with the same level of attitude.

Leckerer Fish & Chips Laden an der Hafenmole. Einfach, typisch, so wie man es erwartet. Ein bischen weg vom großen Rummel an der Esplanate und von vielen Einheimischen besucht.

With a desirable location right on the harbour side this fish and chip takeaway and restaurant couldn’t be in a better place to attract passing trade. Just across the bridge from the centre of town and close to local bus stops it is really easy to get to and therefore it is often quite full. The best way to experience Bennetts is to get their takeaway fish and chips and sit outside on the harbour wall and enjoy the atmosphere. The food is good and there is a good choice of standard chip shop fare at average prices. There is a certain amount of competition from the Marlboro over the road, and I would say that the Marlboro do have slightly better fish and chips and a nicer indoor environment, but there’s not much in it. Bennetts fish and chips is part of a class Weymouth holiday day.
