Went with my 4-year old daughter for a quick bite to eat before a fun cruise down the Thames and back to our home in London. I was unimpressed with my Halloumi salad and chips. Salad dressing was merely a flavorless oil to which I added a massive amount of salt, and the chips were standard-issue, unseasoned, fried potatoes, and I victimized them with a similar thrashing of salt and vinegar. I was also irked that I had to spend the better part of my meal coaching my daughter to eat the basic burger that was on the menu and the chips. This kid rarely encounters burgers and chips that she isn’t happy to gobble up, so I’m guessing that the burger wasn’t fab, either. The venue is also, unexpectedly, not at all the traditional, old timey pub that I was expecting. Lots of small, claustrophobia-inducing rooms with plain walls. There aren’t too many options in the area that aren’t fast food/chain restaurants, but next time I’m in the area and desperate for a bite to eat, I’ll keep looking.

Burger with pulled pork was great. Steak and ale pie was good too. Off the main street so easy to miss.

For our first meal in London, we walked off the beaten path around Trafalgar Square down the alley to Walkers of Whitehall. It was lunch time around 12:30 on a Wednesday and there were plenty of open tables. I ordered the bangers(sausages) and mash and my mom had fish and chips. Both dishes were decent. I’m not sure if it was because we were starving or if the chef’s were good at what they do. The service was fine, but not terribly friendly. A definite perk– the Free WIFI!

This is a decent, serviceable pub. The food was fine, nothing special, but a great location if you’re touring the sites and don’t want to wander too far out. Definitely not worth going out of your way for, however.

Nice little wine bar. Good location if you are sightseeing in central london however I wouldn’t make a special visit. Unfortunately there is no outdoor area though you can hover around a car park — classy! Decent selection of beer, ale and cider both on tap and bottle. White wine by the glass expect to pay £7 + Food was served quickly but again not to be raved about. The toasties and sandwiches were all ok, served with fries. The fish and chips looked more appealing but again with the HUGE selection around the west end stick to a drink and move on.

Decent pub with a quirky layout. I visited after the London 10K and both bars were hosting charity receptions so it probably was a bit busier than usual. Prices were ok considering the location and there was a decent selection available. Our group ordered food which was a bit hit and miss. The fish and chips was a good choice as was the chicken panini however other paninis didn’t quite come up to the standard and someone was charge £5 for a toastie that was basically half a baguette with ham covered in melted cheese! If you are in the area and want a drink you could do a lot worse however you should probably eat before your visit

This place was just okay. Located in a very touristy part of town, we headed here with our tour group for some lunch grub. We ordered the roast beef lunch and a beer. Service was pleasant enough and the food was ok. Nothing to rave about, but I did enjoy the potato croquettes quite a bit. Standard food, nothing amazing. The pub atmosphere was nice and it’s much larger inside than you would guess from outside appearance. Good if you’re in the neighborhood, but there is definitely better pub grub to be had.

This is a great pub in terms of size. It was the venue for a meet up. Not the most obvious location which makes it a bit of a gem when you discover it just a stone’s throw away from the hoards of tourists in Trafalgar square. I plan to return to try the food next time and update the review.

We really enjoyed our food, as well as visiting with the bar tender during our tour of the UK. Went on a Monday or Tuesday evening — very slow night of the week for them.
