Actually quite surprised to report that my most recent trip to the Brocket was an enjoyable one! With the other half being from Wigan originally and only living down the road, we used to frequent it quite often; whether it was for the quiz, a quiet drink, or family gathering, it pretty much ticked all the boxes. This weekend’s trip was to spend some time with grandparents and, with grandad being partial to a Wetherspoons’ mixed grill, the Brocket was simply the best option for all parties involved. Roughly a 15 minute walk from the centre, we managed to avoid any big crowds and quickly settled on a table near the front windows(the back can feel a bit dark as natural light reduces the further back you sit!) The menu was standard Wetherspoons fair, though it’s changed somewhat since we used to visit, with new items including burritos, hot dogs, and more pasta/salad options. I’m not sure whether I agree with the calorie count being listed next to everything as, personally, it takes the fun out of eating. They continue to offer drinks with food, though they’re not great options to be honest e.g. only one ‘proper’ cider on draught and only alcohol-free cider in bottles. I went for the burrito with chilli con carne and it was actually a good little meal. Served with tortilla chips, salsa, guac, sour cream and a few jalapenos, it had a good level of spice and was a good lunchtime portion. I pinched a few chips and onion rings from the other half’s plate, and have to say that the onion rings were probably some of the best we’ve had in a while! When you want something simple and pretty tasty, Wetherspoons is a solid bet. The Brocket is also a good option when you want to be out of the centre, especially on a Friday/Saturday night.

Good function room for private hire, they are reasonably priced and a good location for weddings etc. The staff are friendly and they do have a small selection of menu available.

The Brocket has been a pub for a long time, it used to be more of a local but since the redevelopment by JD Weatherspoons it now attracts people from all over Wigan, the Brocket probably bosts the title of Wigan’s trendiest pub. The pub it’s self is very large, customers vary from the older ladies and gentlemen to attractive young girls starting their nightlife journey. Car parking is sparse so most people tend to park on the road or grab a taxi. The pub has an excellent range of beers including continental lagers such as Brahma, Staropramen, Efes and hoegaarden. The food is the standard weatherspoons fare which is not to everybody’s taste. Weekends are very busy, escpecially the sunday before a Bank Holiday.

Very crowded pub, part of the weatherspoon chain. Serves food but it not of a particularly high quality, but is quickly served and cheap. Young crowd usually looking for the cheap drinks and the various food nights, curry night steak night etc.

The brocket is a little way from the centre but is a nice place to start a night off with a good atmosphere and good surroundings, being a weatherspoons it also offers cheap drinks and certain nights which are set aside for food clubs. The pub quiz on monday at 9pm is also a good laugh with usually a decent number of teams, though the questions can be quite difficult
