Hampshire Record Office is situated in Sussex Street, a short walk from Winchester train station and the town centre. It is an excellent archive. The service is very good, staff are friendly and the collections are fascinating, including some collections relating to Jane Austen. The record office seems to be doing a good job of taking advantage of new technology — the catalogue of their collections, including lots of photographs, is available online and talks given at the Record Office are made available as Podcasts. The Wessex Film and Sound archive is also at the Record Office. This has some really interesting historic films — great fun to watch!
