The Brown Horse Inn

A wonderful birthday dinner for my 1000^th review (hip hip, hooray!) I’ve been to plenty of average pubs, what a delight to go to one with such fantastic food. I really love the rustic-​chic décor, and three weeks later I’m still dreaming about the fillet of hake with chorizo bolognaise, pine nut & parsley crust, mixed bean cassoulet (I had to look that up off the menu just now, I didn’t memorize the description). Oh man. It was absolutely glorious, perfectly cooked, full of flavor, loved the texture of the cassoulet, totally dreamy dish. I felt like I definitely ordered the best thing at the table and it was hard not to brag about it. It’s been a few weeks, and the memory of my dessert has gone from my mind — though I vaguely recall it being a lush sticky toffee pudding — but I’ll not ever forget that hake and chorizo and beans! An absolute must-​try and a great way to ring in 31!

This place was unbelievable. What a wonderful find. The atmosphere is beautiful, warm and cool at the same time. The service was great and the food was Amazing. They really know what they are doing.
We had such a nice time. When we return to this area we will surely pop back in and try a couple more of their dishes. You will not be dissapointed.

Love this place we have been here a few times we even spent a little of our honeymoon here this year. We always end up coming back as the food and service and rooms are all to a very high standard. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I really have nothing bad to say about this place. We will be back in the new year! x

Loved this country pub which does Bed & Breakfast. The rooms we stayed in were of a high standard. It has a great atmosphere, and round the back, a little farm shop. If you want an evening meal it’s advisable to book in advance, especially at weekends, as it is very popular due to the excellent quality of the food. Pricier than some, but sometimes it’s nice to treat yourself. We often stop off for a drink on the way to the Lakes.

Searching for somewhere to eat out of town whilst staying in Windermere, we chanced upon the Brown Horse.
Our first impression was very favourable — it looked cosy and welcoming and just a bit different! The menu looked fairly bog-​standard and rather expensive, however. Nevertheless, we had to eat so I ordered bangers and mash and Judi had the cod & chips.
NEVER AGAIN WILL I CALL THESE DISHES ‘BOG-​STANDARD’!
The three sausages were each of a different recipe and, as it turned out, made in the pub kitchen from locally sourced pork or venison. The mashed potato was creamed to perfection and the presentation was superb. Judi’s cod was, she tells me, excellent and the chips… Great railway sleepers of crispy brown potato with a soft fluffy interior — only six of them, stacked to form a cube, but more than enough to satisfy.
You really need to try this place, the food is well worth the money!
