Great food, simple but well sourced, reasonably priced, nice ambience, good service. Good beer, bar area is cramped though.

This place has been through a few incarnations over the last few years and has returned from gastro-pub to local, with the food de-tuned more to local tastes. The Bee being located 100 yards off the A30, you have to know it is there and that means you have to have a reason to go into Windlesham, famous for its Boxing Day pram races, a singularly British phenomenon. The pub itself is a bit cramped and easily swamped, but still retains some of the charm that is fast being eradicated from the British pub scene. It is unusual in that it does have quite a large car park for its size, not necessarily a common thing in small villages, but welcome. The drinks are fairly predictable and the selection of beers is limited but designed to cater to local tastes. My main problem was with the espresso machine. Located at the opposite end of the bar from the wait station, the single young man on duty when we first went in, was running backwards and forwards serving coffee, past a line of thirsty customers who had yet to get their first drink. Maybe this was an aberration, I will find out when I revisit later this week, but it was intensely annoying, especially as it is an old style(and fairly impressive) machine with a press that takes a fair amount of fiddling and time to make a cup of coffee. Later, after the postprandial caffeine junkie rush, the bar mysteriously sprouted two or three more people to serve and the drink wait shrank significantly.
