This place reminds me of that Harry Enfield sketch where he runs a shop in Chelsea or similar, and his punch line as he sells repackaged tat to his less than discerning customers is ‘I saw you coming’. Not that I wish to imply that the underlying product at ‘Oil and Vinegar’ is the same as cheaper alternatives, nor detract from their ‘value-added’, but for some reason that perhaps only I can explain, the olive oil prices reminded me of the sketch. There was a reasonably priced bottle on display in the window, but once I had been drawn inside I was faced with ‘olive oil with pepper’, ‘olive oil with thyme’ and ‘olive oil with basil’ at £2 per 100ml. That compares with 40p per 100ml for a small(250ml) bottle from Asda. The packaging at Oil and Vinegar looks superb, but for me the Asda price never went out of fashion.
