Spud U Like, located in the food court at the bottom concourse of the Peacocks Shopping centre, offers a welcome alternative to the majority of other fast food chains that are available. There isn’t a designated seating area as such for Spud U Like, unlike the larger restaurants such as KFC and McDonalds which seem to dominate the area, which can result in you getting disapproving looks from the KFC/McDonalds staff if you try and sit there during busy hours without purchasing from them. The food itself is basic, and comparatively healthy — there’s only a limited amount of things you can do to a jacket potato. All the fillings are relatively fresh, and the portion sizes are reasonable. The price is slightly excessive for what you’re getting though.

Healthy fast food is not the easiest thing to come by but, in Spud U Like, you might get close. The Woking branch is situated in the food court at the bottom of the Peacocks Centre. As such, it doesn’t have a defined seating area — you just find a table somewhere on that floor. The food is always hot and seems fresh. Fillings are traditional — beans, cheese, chilli, coleslaw, tuna and the like. There’s no garnish with the potatoes but you can purchase a salad. Drinks(bottled and tap) can also be purchased and there are often meal-deals available. Portion sizes are good. If you want butter on your potato and have ordered a filling then you need to tell the staff or they won’t add it. Staff are efficient and friendly although they seem to operate best when you order straight. On one occassion I was eating with my toddler and I asked the staff to split one potato into two(since my son seemed to want a whole everything and would not have let me share the potato with him). Although they understood they didn’t seem to know what to do. I was then told that they had no price for half-potatoes, despite the fact that I was still buying a WHOLE one. It was only a buttered potato so there was no issue with the filling either! Prices are quite expensive for what, in reality, is a 10p potato and 20p worth of filling but it provides a good alternative to the usual burger joints.
