My pre-salsa meal took me to Woking today. The Guru is in a little parade of shops in Old Woking. There is street parking available nearby. The interior is quite modern with a lot of wood and lots of light — they’ve certainly decided against the traditional, cliched Indian curry house look. The menu had familiar dishes and eschewed the trend of some places to introduce new specials. I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t have my favoured mango lassi. However, sometimes, old favourites are old favourites for a reason. Our popaddoms came with some nice condiments and the starter of onion bhaji was light and crisp. The lamb makhani was in a sauce sweetend with coconut. This was balanced with our other choice of chicken tikka dupiaza, which was more savoury. The flavours were distinct and recognisable. Worth a return visit if we come to salsa in the area again.

This is our local. Standard curry fare and menu, but very well prepared, and service is very good too. seems to be busy all week. for us so good to have a quality curry house within walking distance.

So. GOOD. When we moved into the area recently, while the kitchen was being unpacked, we found ourselves indulging in ordering from The Guru more often than we’d like to admit. They aren’t cheap, and so are now relegated to special occasions or the ends of especially long weeks, but if you’re looking for an exceptional curry, this one will not disappoint. The flavours seemed complex and delicate, not the generic sweet curry, hot curry, etc you can sometimes get. They have what looks to be a very nice dining room, but lack of babysitters have kept us from eating in. And, as I’ve said with other reviews, they don’t have a delivery service(thank goodness!), yet are still who we always pick, which says a lot!
