Not bad. Hotel for me looked a bit tired but it is being upgraded currently. It was fine for a couple of nights. Some mix-up’s over the booking despite phoning to confirm some things and there was no record of the phone call when we arrived. They did let us check in early which helped. Paid extra for breakfast which was good. They have gluten free bread which was great for me and the food was good. Staff will advise on gf options. Wine reasonable too. Didn’t explore the grounds but would be lovely in the summer. I think if I had been expecting a country pile with period bedrooms in the manner of a Bridget Jones romantic mini break then I would have been disappointed but it was fine for sleeping in. All in all, ok for a quick stay and good for Wokingham.

This is really a weakish three. The hotel is nice, but the rooms could use some general maintenance. My room was very spacious, with a very nice bath/shower(more later). The bed was OK — not the most comfortable I’ve ever had, but not terrible either. Pillows were very firm, which I like. The room also had a «back door» which opened up on to a little garden, which was kind of nice. TV had tons of channels, but I just left it on Sky News. But the room itself is just a little… shabby? There was some water damage/mildew in the bathroom, and the curtain over the«back door» window, when let down for privacy, revealed a nice mold colony. I shared my room with a small family of spiders. They don’t seem to have bothered me, I hope I didn’t bother them. I’m wondering, though, if I swallowed one of the spiders that they say people swallow while sleeping over the course of their lives. The desk was pretty useless — such a small opening that the empty chair didn’t even fit under it, let alone with you sitting on it. However, I am forgiving some of this for the shower. Perhaps I’m jaded after the Radisson Blu shower in Dublin, but this shower was fantastic. After flying overnight, going straight to the office, working until quite late, and then collapsing in to bed without a chance to freshen up, the shower I took the next morning was luxuriant. Good shower pressure without being painful, good water coverage, nice volume… I considered stealing the shower head. Lovely. The heated towel rack wasn’t working, however, as it was actually a steam radiator, I’m assuming they’re not running their boiler in June. So, I might try something else, but… I’d also come back. The price seems a bit high, but I’m not familiar with what the scale should be. A small benefit here is that it’s only about half a mile from my client, easily walkable rather than calling a cab. So that’s a plus. But I hear tell of an(also kind of unremarkable) Hilton in the area as well.

I found myself here for a wedding, the setting is quite picturesque. I did have some niggles with my room, however everything else for the wedding was lovely. The staff are excellent, so ready to help you really do feel like nothing is too much trouble. The place is a veritable warren of corridors, rather than being one large building it seems to have a lot of wings meaning its pretty easy to get turned around. Food I had there was nice, I wouldn’t say brilliant, but on par with what you were paying for it. Drinks appear to be on the expensive side, though that maybe my Northern Boy prices skewing my judgement. My room was ok. I will confess I had their cheapest room ‘cosy double’ just shy of £80, little niggle firstly was no bedside lamp, and only way to turn the light off was next to the door on the other side of the room, so a bit of blindly wandering trying not to bash your knees when trying to get to bed, but suppose it’s not a major niggle. Something that I will admit is probably a one off(or at least it better be) was that people were in and out of my room all day, I came across them barely an hour after I’d checked in, something to do with ‘decorating’ to which their response was«we didn’t think you’d be in here during the day» granted I wasn’t spending the day in there but I’m pretty sure that’s irrelevant, it was my room with my stuff in for the next 24 hours. To compound the feeling of unease I had about the room, I returned to it a 2 or three times throughout the day to find the door wide open with a key in the lock and no one in the room, so not only were people going in and out who had a key, they didn’t feel it prudent to lock the room when they weren’t there, I ended up moving my stuff out of the room to one of the other wedding guests rooms till the evening when I eventually found my room locked. As I say I’m sure its a one off, but it happened during my stay so it goes in my review.

Romantic night away? Look no further this family run hotel is to die for… a proper pile in the counrty, sweeping drive up to the hotel and your find a real treat. The hotel is quite old and the grounds are pretty with lavender all around, a huge lawn and lots of roses. The rooms are big, clean and comfie… you even get mini sweets! The resturant is called miltons and is a old barn type building, i can say hand on heart that everything here is wonderfull… the cheese board is lovely too, i know as ive eaten here so offen. It really is a great place the staff are brillant and bend over backwards to help you in anyway possible. Wait till you have the breakfast… massive and so fresh. Please take someone NOW!
