Wolverhampton Market lives, but is still far from being the market it was years ago. Trying to break the vicious circle of people not going because there’s no variety /various traders leaving because there’s not enough customers is a difficult task but I know the local Council is committed to the City Centre market. Cannot compete with the bustling Bilston market but if customers come and the traders and Council work together then there’s no reason Wolves market can’t go back to something resembling it’s glory days. Still worth 3 stars from me because the hardcore of people who believe in the place are fighting for it.

6 months ago, I fought tooth and nail with the council to help the traders keep this market! So many traders had already upped and left, with councils upping the rent charges. However, the council have now said they will monitor the progress for another year, before making a final decision about the future of the Market. We need to get back into the habbit of using our local produce provided by local traders and butchers. The indoor market sells anything from fabric, to lamb shanks, and sooo much cheaper than at independent stores, or even supermarkets. The outdoor markets sell the fruit and veg and even bric-à-brac too. The market traders are soo friendly and helpful, and need our support to protect their livelihood. Do we really want to see the big corporate fat-cats rolling around in this money, and the ‘little’ people suffer? Markets are open Monday– Wednesday(Monday Bric-à-brac only) and Friday-Saturday. hint For even cheaper fruit and veg… go later in the afternoon between 2.30 and 3pm on a Tuesday to grab some bargains!

I agree with joswat that a few years ago this was a thriving market. I still shop here most saturday mornings — mainly fruit and veg and meat/fish(far cheaper and fresher than supermaket stuff) but it is dwindling. I know one or two of the traders and they say that the council is trying to squeeze them out. Use it or lose it!

this used to be a busy bustling market every stall you could possibly need, for years we were taken to the market by mom always for the fresh veg and fruit. buy the bags of loose biscuits used to be like a day out. then it all changed got loads of fabric stalls and it lost its personality. theres only a few of the olf fashioned market traders there now they are having to fight for there livleyhood now i wish them luck. unless we support the markets they will dissappear.
