The Ship Inn in Blaxhall wasn’t all that special and I’d be in no rush to return. A large party of locals sat noisily in one corner and there were only a couple of other tables that didn’t say reserved. The large group was ordering drinks and so we had to wait for the one barman to finish. A girl stood in a doorway behind the bar watching us wait and why she couldn’t serve us I don’t know. If she wasn’t able to serve for some reason she could have at least acknowledged us. There were four real ales but disappointingly only one was from local brewery Adnams. I scanned a good menu and thought the meals were reasonably priced. I can only assume the pub is popular for food with so many tables booked.

Went here today for Sunday lunch! We settled for the roast beef and I’m convinced I had half a cow on my plate! The slices were huge and about half an inch thick, served with six different veg and a Yorkshire pudding! Very generous portions… and obviously a very popular watering hole for the local population.

Given that there is only one pub in Blaxhall, when we stayed here we were lucky it was as nice and popular as the Ship. The place was very friendly but does get very packed, if you want to eat here I would recommend booking early. The food is really good. They serve food sourced locally such as the sausages(I can’t remember the name of them but they came from a local butchers) and everything was really well cooked and tasty. The atmosphere was great, although the place was packed they managed to squeeze the two of us in for something to eat. The staff were really nice. We ended up sitting around chatting with them until late in the evening.
