This is the only professional orchestra of the town and of West Sussex. Formed in 1926 it was the first Municipal orchestra in Britain. Present conductor is John Gibbons,(since 1997), and he does quite a good job. Led by Julian Leaper, who also leads the City of London Sinfonia, successfully, We have been often to the Assembly Hall, but our favourite concert is Music for a Summer’s Evening held in the Pier Pavilion. Just a wonderful atmosphere on a balmy Summer evening all dressed up in your Black Tie. Next concert 02÷09÷12 and features Scottish-Itaian soloist Nicola Benedetti playing Bruch’s No 1. Well worth going!!!
