An easy 5 stars for the location alone. This place is set right in the middle of Dartmoor. If you’ve been driving or hiking for awhile, definitely stop here to have a beer(or two). The inside is intimate and cozy. There’s plenty of seating, and a nice hearth to warm yourself by. If I’m in this beautiful region of the UK again, I’ll surely visit again!

In the middle of Dartmoor, with very little around it, you come across this quaint pub. I’ve been here a few times, in different weathers. In winter there is always a flaming fire to warm you through but, this time, the weather was very warm. Sitting outside with one of their local ales, viewing the Moors, was perfect. I cannot comment on the taste of the food but from what I saw coming out of the kitchens, it looked good, in fact very good. If you can find it, it’s worth a visit.

There is nothing better than a walk on Dartmoor follwed by a drink at the Warren House Inn, one of the most isolated inns in the UK. This is especially true if the weather is inclement and you are cold, wet and windswept(a common feeling for Dartmoor lovers), the Inn’s sole bar has log fires at both ends, fires that have reputedly never been allowed to die. There is a wealth of history here, enough to fill a book on sale at the bar. The trade here must be heavily dependent on passing trade, the nearest settlement is miles away, and the nature of the Dartmoor weather means that that trade must often be very minimal. Yet the real ales they serve(Sharp’s Doom Bar and Otter) are always perfectly presented. They also do food, a small specials menu chalked up each day. I have yet to sample this but it looks and sounds very good — I will add to this review when I have finally tasted it.
