This was a fabulous tour. Everyone should do this free walking tour! We had already walked around most of York, and seen a lot of the sights we were covering on this tour, but this was still worth doing! It was great to hear about the history of each place, and how it all fit together. The guides are all students at the University of York majoring in History or archaeology. I think this is brilliant, since it means they are all interested in this! The tour is not everyday. I believe it is Friday-Monday at 11am and 2pm.

a 100% free walking tour, hosted by voluntary guides! It doesn’t get any better than this :) Free walking tours are always popular, and while in several cities, you can tip at the end — this is a free walking tour, which is strictly hosted by volunteers. So while I would happily still tip in the end for my walking tours, this is a completely free one for those who are really looking to save their travel money. It was about a 2.5 hour tour, we walked along part of the city walls, looked at some of the ruins and given a bit of history on the city. My guide was also the one who told me about the York Minster Library, and he had a few photos in his bag to show us. Thats how I ended up at the library(and sadly was a bit too much of a wimp to ask where this amazingly cool Harry Potter’esque Library was!). Anyway, great tour, highly recommend :)
