After moving to York from the North East this branch of Fenwick’s is such a disappointment to their massive store in Eldon Square, Newcastle. Goodness knows why they didn’t expand into the C&A premises(now Topshop) when they had the chance. Menswear is a paltry offering(and mainly for the older and rich blokes) just past the good sized cosmetics department. There at least is a whole floor given over to womenswear. There is a really good card shop on the ground floor, and their basement cookware department is worth a visit. Space given over to toys seems to have suffered in recent years. All in all a disappointing branch of a small chain so successful elsewhere.

like most department stores in york, but they have stopped the FCUK, diesel and some other concessions. which is disappointing as the concessions they have now are for the more mature woman i think? toilets need attending more often, and at busy times there are queues, toilets out of paper and the sink area gets very wet. have a good range of beauty concessions and handbag concessions like RI2K, radley, guess etc but nothing with real wow factor as for the beauty concessions, i find some of the staff to be snooty, or less then pleased to serve or talk to me as i’ve interupted there private not store related conversation with another member of staff! so its very rare for me to buy from fenwick’s, unless its the sales or something that i really need and time is running out on the parking meter! and now that they no longer have certain fashion concessions in, i never really go look at the clothing on the 1st floor, unless i’m walking through to go to the car.(as the car park exit is on the 1st floor) the feel good factor is just not there! which is a shame as when i 1st moved to york 15yrs ago it was a fab place to shop, good range of clothing concessions
