5-star brunch. Haven’t had the chance to try dinner. The«Loch Fyne Breakfast» consists of a sampling of a number of traditional Scottish breakfast items. If you haven’t tried traditional haggis, you are missing out on an excellent, slightly peppery, dish. As good as the«LFB» was, it lacked kippered herring — an all time favorite of mine, so I ordered some as a side. Two beautifully fried fish arrived. Nicely salty, very flavorful and with a squeeze of lemon, perfect. They bring back memories of my father frying them up as a special treat when I was a kid. Highly recommended for brunch.

Great service, really nice atmosphere. Great sustainable menu. I had the Line caught hake with sides. Great selection of local and fresh options priced well for the area…

Over priced and slow service. There are much better dining options along this street in a similar price range and independently run.

Overpriced with food not worth the money spent. Slow service. High expectations based on reputation, but was a let down. Don’t go unless you have a voucher or money to throw away.

Really high quality restaurant serving fish and sea food. Good place to go for a treat as it’s a little pricey but I’d say it’s worth it. Nice staff and décor too.

After leaving the woman at the Hairy Fig to her busy day of chatting and ignoring customers, we wondered a little further up the road and found the Loch Fyne restaurant on Foss Bridge. We decided to settle there for some lunch, lovely building once you are inside. Greeted with a smile and within a reasonable time and shown to a table near to the fish counters so that you could see the produce. The waitress was friendly but just lacked that little bit extra, in these times when people don’t have vast amounts of money to eat out, restaurants need to make that extra effort so that you get that feeling of value for money. I don’t like going into restaurants and then have to ask for things that either should have been offered or had been forgotten. We did ask for some bread with Olive oil and Balsamic vinegar, the waitress forgot these and our starters came first. There were condiment’s that should have been offered for our starter but were not and we had to ask, also had to ask where our bread was. We got a half hearted apology. I thought oh dear is this the sort of customer service to expect in York. Now what makes it even more difficult, is this new breed of staff that give you no eye contact, they wonder around restaurants totally oblivious that there are customer there and I just do not understand this! Having worked in this type of industry eye contact is very important, looking around the restaurant making sure customers are happy and if they need anything. Coupled with the fact of no eye contact, all three staff stood chatting while we were trying to catch their eye, it took a good 5 minutes, crazy. However! The waitress did lighten up and we started to get better service and with a smile and a bit of fun banter. The food was excellent, couldn’t fault it at all. It turned out to be an enjoyable lunch in the end, just took a little time to get there. Would we recommend? and will we return? Answer to both is yes. All that needs to happen here is a bit of passion with the staff, eye contact make sure customers are not sat there with their hands in the air as though trying to get the teachers attention. So at the start it went from no tip to tip as she did redeem herself 8 out 10

i found a printable voucher for this place on line, 2 courses for £9.95 after 5pm now my man loves his fish, so i thought i’d treat him the menu for the offer was nice an simple, my man had the muscles and i the chicken parfait for the mains, i had risotto an man had hake on a bed of samphire all the fish is of the quality i expect in a restaurant, the reason i don’t eat fish is, it is either over cooked or not fresh enough! my father could cook fish, and that is the standard i expect when eating fish! and this chain(york) does exactly that! my main gripe is the portion size! and also the normal menu would work out very costly! but the quality of the produce was worth the offer price, copied a 2nd set of the voucher for my friend an if she revied it would be same as mine however i did find the service lacking, it was a busy monday night though, ppl were being tuned away! so i would recomend booking a table!

On a quest for seafood in York a few friends and I wandered into Loch Fyne around 7pm on a weekday night without a reservation. We were seated without any problem. From the start the service was a bit blah. Our server had to struggle to smile and it seemed like she was being forced to ask if there were any problems. Interestingly, other staff members, including the manager, seemed truly pleasant. Maybe she was having a bad day. The food was good. Not bad, not amazing, just good. The oysters were really great, but the mains left something to be desired. I ordered a seafood sampler plate with salmon, seabass, scallops and prawns. I dont know how a dish with all that on it could be be boring, but it was. It was all simply grilled and just put in a pile on the plate on top of some sad, wilted greens. I think my dining companions had the same reaction to their meals. At the end we all just thought, «Yeah, it was OK.» When we arrived it was fairly quiet, but by the time we left the place was packed and had gotten rather loud. Overall the ambiance is nice, if not a bit open and exposed. There is a nice wine list with affordable wine list and the menu offers a good variation, there just wasnt anything that put Loch Fyne over the top.

Ok nosh shop. I had steak with prawns and chips. Service good and it’s good to see the old shop setting intact. Booking advised and well done to a small company who’ve expanded but kept things personal. Note there are better restaurants on this delightful street in the town!

Well my partner, and I went to this old hardware store now one of York, s nice restuarant, s. Valentines night it was our 1st valentines together so was to be special. The venue it’s self clean, atmospheric, and had also kept some of the original character, and to start the night of impressively was that the manager remember my name and me from booking prior to the night. Sarha our waitress was introduced to us, but sadley to say that was barely all we saw of her throughout the night. However the three course set menu with champagne at the start of the evening and coffee and chocolates at the end was a lovley evening and myself and Lee said we would go bk again but remember nice place but long wait for your food we gave it a 7/out of 10

Pretty good, but not great, restaurant. Looks a bit expensive but seafood is always high standard and well prepared. Complimentary bread recently withdrawn, some staff a little brusque and iffy music too loud. A meal out is an experience not just a fuelling-up and Loch Fyne misses some of the important trimmings. We continue to use it as the food is good and decent value.

I have eaten here a couple of times, I’m not a seafood fan, which is difficult when you eat here. Still the steak was nice and the atmosphere was also nice. The site used to be an old general stores, the shelving from this old store is still there behind the bar.

Crap. I am so glad Unilocal has come to the UK so I can write the one star review this place deserves. We visited friends and family in the UK in September 08. It was a rainy day we were done with our sightseeing and we wanted to get an early dinner and were looking for someplace that would accommodate our group 7 or so. Loch Fyne was open and empty and menu looked reasonable. Our arrival seemed to fluster the staff as it was a bit early for dinner. We offered to have drink and wait. They reluctantly agreed to seat us if we could be done in 2 hours as they had a reservation for the big table. We agreed as we wanted to eat and get going. Seemed like there should be no problem. That’s when the problem started. The service was sullen and slow. Just that awful sensation of feeling like you are imposing on them just for being there. Without going into too much detail, the food was awful. Some was not hot. My fish dish was mush. Everything was bland. And this was from a kitchen that had no other orders. The service went from slow to nonexistent as they seemed to change servers mid-meal. After having to ask for everything and wait for everything they had the gall to come over and remind us that we had to finish by the time limit! Britain is not know for its food but we did have some very good meals elsewhere in the UK but this was certainly the low point.

This building used to be a well known ironmongers shop but has been restored to a high standard. The original high ceilings are still there and add to the unique ambience of the place. Loch Fyne is a chain of seafood restaurants. I’ve been meaning to visit since it opened a couple of years ago, and only recently got the opportunity. I was not disappointed. The lunchtime deal which which we had is excellent value at £12 a head for two courses or £15 for three courses, including a glass of house wine. The choices are mainly seafood, but there was a steak dish available on this occasion, and a game pâté for starter if you’re not keen on seafood. We went for the two course, and between three of us had game pâté, Mussels, and Bradan Rost(smoked salmon) for starters, and Languine, Bream, and Herring for mains. Sample menus are on their website. The service and the food were excellent, and I could find nothing to criticise.
