I can easily say that this is the best hotel in the UK. I stayed here for two days. The state was very helpful and very nice. The bedroom was comfortable, clean and cozy. If you are in York, you can’t go wrong if you choose this hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at Marmadukes — a fantastic, funky boutique hotel around 10 mins walk from York Minster. We only paid around £80 midweek for a double room with breakfast and thought this great value considering the hotel was nice, staff were really friendly and the setting perfect for a lovely break. There’s not much near it(apart from the fantastic boutique Dough Pizza to-go place) so it will probably require you nipping into town but you can be there in 5 – 10 mins. Considering this is what you could pay for a faceless chain hotel, I’d always stay at a place like this over it any day of the week.

I booked into this hotel last year for myself and my fiancé as a surprise for his birthday. I wanted some a bit different and special and so booked us into Marmadukes as it looked lovely on the pics. We certainly weren’t disappointed when we arrived. The hotel is decorated in a Georgian and Victorian style with gorgeous furniture throughout giving the place a lovely feel of being somewhere a bit posh and fancy from the olden days! I booked us into the Four Poster room with the champagne, chocolates and strawberry option as well to make it extra special. The room was beautiful with all antique furniture and the bed was divine(I felt like I was in Bedknobs and Broomsticks!) and apparently the bed was made by the same man who makes Madonna’s and the Harry Potter beds from the film, oh la laaaa. The hotel isnt too far from the main shops and bars but far enough away from all the noise of the centre on a nice leafy quiet street. The only complaint I had was someone coming into our room at 3am which was quite bizarre and scary, we did complain to the hotel but they did nothing about it and we still don’t know who it was! Oh and the chair I had in the restaurant had a broken leg on it so when I stood up to leave I almost took out our dining table which would have been the height of embarrassment and again the staff didn’t seem to care that I’d nearly been floored by a broken chair leg. But all in all it was a lovely romantic weekend and I’d def go back again.
