The House was formerly the home of Noël Terry, a relative of the Terry chocolate firm, Joseph Terry and Sons. It is a hidden gem ! Beautifully tended 4 acres of Garden, which is an oasis of calm and tranquillity so close to York. The Gardens make an ideal place take a stroll and relax a peaceful oasis with herbaceous borders, winding pathways. rockeries, ponds and lush green lawns. An ideal and safe place to take children, have a picnic, read a book or just spend time out. You can explore seven rooms of this Arts and Crafts house to discover the story of the Terry family, life in the chocolate factory and soak up the atmosphere of York’s 1930s heydays. Unlike many of the National Trust properties, the furnishings are not original(as that was bequeathed and is now in The Mansion House in York) but of the period and so can be sat upon and touched. Photograph albums can be thumbed through and board games played. It really is a very pleasant way to pass the day and as is usual there is also a café to have a snack.
