A very basic and simple establishment but one with a very friendly atmosphere. It may not host well-known acts but I had a fabulous night out seeing comedy that was on when I went. I felt very welcome by both staff and the people already there even though I was a lone female, I’d never visited before in my life and I’m not from York. It was like having an evening with friends except I’d never met them before. I have awarded it three stars, as it is not a noteworthy place for its décor or aesthetic but neither is it an awful place. If I were to rate solely on atmosphere and how good my evening out was, I would have undoubtedly given it a five star rating. As long as you aren’t looking for anywhere upmarket and posh then St Lawrence Working Mens Club is a decent night out. Only major downside would be if you weren’t prepared to walk. However this was not a problem for me and I didn’t mind travelling a bit out of city centre by foot.
