The Maltings is located a couple of minutes walk from York railway station and close to Lendl Bridge. It is a privately owned Freehouse. The Maltings doesn’t look much from the outside, with it’s rather dowdy battleship grey exterior, but inside is a real gem full of character and atmosphere! With its cosy traditional feel, this pub offers a large range of beers to enjoy in comfortable relaxed surroundings. There is also a recently added outside area added on the side. The Maltings is a popular award winning pub, and can sometimes become rather busy. Well worth a visit!

This place is a nice pub, with a good range of drinks including great beers on draught, interesting bottled beers, and a wide variety of fruit wines. Despite this I just found it a bit uninspiring. Maybe because it’s brewery-owned? I don’t know. We didn’t stay for long and other pubs we made it to were a lot nicer.

Not a big pub and can get very busy, but nice ale

A charming typical ye olde English pub. Cask ales plus some good draught keg brews. I sampled a Ska Brewing IPA, which I was pleasantly surprised to see on tap. They only serve food during the day. I didn’t sample any but toasties, burgers, pies, chips and various incarnations of melted cheese looks like good beer drinking food to me. Worth a visit when in York.

Great pub. Good choice of well kept beers. Does get busy, especially on race days. friendly enough doorstaff discourage large parties. interesting use of recycled doors for the décor. Have to agree with a previous post about the toilets.

Good beer here. One of my favourite York pubs. Not far from the station too.

Pokey, dark boozer — handy for station. Good choice of beers. Staff have well cultivated air of general disinterest. Nowt special

Owned by the Black Sheep brewery, this is close to the River Ouse and on the main route to and from the railway station into the city centre. It has one large room with a small bar area. The main draw is the choice of half a dozen guest ales alongside Black Sheep favourites, and they have a very good reputation for lunchtime food, too, though I haven’t eaten here. Often packed, Saturday evenings particularly so, when the sight of bouncers on the door can be a bit off-putting, although the atmosphere inside is friendly, and the staff are really attentive. One major gripe — they really need to sort out the gents’ loos, which were both in need of a severe mop, and had a nasty chemical smell on my last visit. They’ve lost a star for that.

A fairly small pub near the riverside in York, which is jam packed with people most nights of the week, and quite rightly so. It’s a lovely Black Sheep brewery pub that revels in serving lots of different varieties of beer, both local and imported, many of which you won’t find anywhere else either on tap or in bottles. The décor is good fun, as they’ve lined the place with all sorts of weird old signs and notices from years gone by, many of which are very surreal. The service is always with a smile and the prices are OK. I’ve not tried the food here but it would have to be very quiet for me to want to give it a go– it doesn’t take many people to come to this place before you’d be struggling for elbow room and would find it difficult to eat. If you like good beer though– you must go here.

Always my first port of call and my last port of call on any drinking trip to York. For several years now the Maltings has consistently knocked out quality real ale and reasonable pub grub. The best in the city for ale.

The Maltings is the place to go in York if you really love your beer! The place is fantastic and caters for even the most discerning beer taster! The food always looks and smells excellent and although I have never personally tested this I am led to believe by friends that it is the case! It can often get very crowded in here as it is so popular!
