Wow, disappointed. This place would have gotten an easy 3 – 4 stars, except that our barmaid was exceptionally snotty. She met our hellos with a still glare, gave clipped answers to our questions, was impatient when taking food and drink orders, and made it clear she didn’t like us at all. You know what? I’m not here to try to be your penpal; the bare minimum of politeness will do. The food was heavy like you’d expect, vegetables way overcooked. My chicken pie was pretty good, but the others at the table didn’t finish their meals and were disappointed. Let’s see if there were any pros: well, in fact, the pints were very good. The Taddy Lager was nice and bubbly, very refreshing. Good selection, great location, so it could stand a chance with some staff adjustments.

Located across the street from the York Minster, York Arms is a nice little pub to grab a drink. We got there after they stopped serving food so I didn’t get to sample any of their fare. However, I was able to try Samuel Smith’s cider, the Arms’ equivalent of Strongbow. It was yummy, not as bubbly as Strongbow is but equally delicious. I had just come from a four hour coach ride so any kind of drink was a welcome relief. The pub was pretty full of locals and tourists alike. York is pretty touristy to begin with so it was nice to find a place that wasn’t all tourists. From the pub we walked to the Minster, which is a must see whether you are religious or not. As you can see by the fact that visited the York Arms before visiting this church, they let just about anyone in.
