No tienen cara muchachos.

No señor. Vas a gastar plata? Sin dudas. Te vas a arrepentir?

There was a short line 30 minutes before opening. They’re located in a cute neighbor so I recommend walking around and exploring to kill time. I don’t like making reservations because I don’t want to feel obligated to anything while on vacation. I was lucky to get a table for 3 on the second floor without a res. This is a less touristy steak house compared to the others on the«recommended» list. The servers were friendly and service was quick but didn’t feel rush. The steak was affordable and decent, nothing WOW though. It was easy to get a cab after the meal.

4.5 stars. When roaming about BA, there’s one parrilla which everyone recommends and it is Don Julio. Obviously, my friend and I decided to make it our first dinner in Argentina and it was great. It was easily one of the greatest steaks that I have ever had. Getting a shareable bottle of malbec is so easy and their wine list is comprehensive.(You also get free champagne as you wait in line.) The service is better than the equivalent steakhouses in America. You have to check out Don Julio is you’re in BA. It is necessary. I also appreciate how DJ asks how you would like your steak cooked. While it is typical for Argentine meat to be on the well side, I prefer mine rare to medium rare… which was an easy ask here. Here’s why I didn’t round up to five stars: 1. Empanada game WEAK. 2. It is touristy. While it may be one of the world’s most worthwhile tourist trap, there is a feel of BA/Argentine authenticity that I would be looking for in such a renowned parrilla.

This place is a pretty decent example of an Argentinian steakhouse. We had chorizo and morcilla(blood sausage) for entrée — the morcilla was to die for and the sausage was ok, a tad fatty for our liking but the condiments made up for that. The steaks had a beautiful charr to them and a really lovely smoky flavour. My only criticism is that we ordered them medium rare and they seemed to come out more towards medium. Service was attentive and the wine list impressive, I would happily return.

I suspect this restaurant is a victim of its own success. It was okay but not the best meal or service that we had in a week of eating out in Buenos Aires. I had the short ribs and they were not good… very fatty. We felt very rushed. There were many people waiting outside on the sidewalk for a table and we were pressured to place our order. The meal was served within 2 minutes of our appetizer being served. We were seated under the air conditioner which dripped on me throughout the meal. The salad was delicious — had the heirloom tomatoes. The wine list was extensive and excellent. So a mixed experience and we had better in Buenos Aires.

Chic, nice, touristy and worthy of its fame. Don Julio is, apparently, an institution in BA. The quality of everything is great: entries, steaks, fries, wine, and even the knife. That comes with a price, of course. Compared to other parrillas(like Parrilla Pena), Don Julio is quite expensive. But it is an unavoidable restaurant if you are searching for a high quality parrilla.

Totally forgot to review this. Easily one of the best steakhouses in BA. Sure, you’ll likely have to wait if you don’t have a reservation, but while you’re waiting, they hand out some complimentary prosecco. It’s not the best prosecco you’ve ever had, but it’s a more-than-welcome treat while waiting for a spot to sit down. The inside is filled to the brim with tables and shelves with wine, and has a pretty nice steakhouse-y feel, if that makes sense. We were eventually seated seated outside, which was actually great, since the weather was perfect. Went with the porterhouse, with a couple sides of grilled vegetables, and they were both delicious. Don’t know if I can consider potatoes a vegetable per se, but still a delicious side dish. Porterhouse was huge and was cooked to a perfect medium rare(jugoso). Meat was incredibly flavorful, even though it wasn’t as fatty as most porterhouses you would get in the US. At about AR$ 240, not bad at all. The Malbec we got was probably my favorite out of all the places we went to in BA, just the right balance of sweet and dry, in my opinion. Service is much quicker here than at other restaurants and steakhouses in the area. I don’t know what it is, but I’m guessing that since they have a pretty extensive staff, there’s someone always refilling water or taking miscellaneous small requests. Prices, as mentioned before, are pretty good for a nice steakhouse, and definitely cheaper than at La Cabrera. Between this and La Cabrera, I would say I liked the overall experience at Don Julio better, although I’m a fan of all the small side dishes and extras you receive at La Cabrera. I wouldn’t say that I liked one over the other, they’re really just different experiences in general, so not quite comparable. Really though, Don Julio is a great choice if you’re looking for a good steak in the heart of BA.

Hands down this place is definitely a highlight of my trip. A year ago I was in BA and was in love with the Lo de Jesus, but this time Don Julio beat all the steakhouses with handicap! While waiting we were served sparkling wine and grilled cheese, then served the best rib eye and lomo. CHORIZO was out of this world! This is like a gold standard for all chorizos in the world. Dinner for three was $ 1200 pesos.

Hands down the best steakhouse I’ve ever been to! Our servers were exceptionally sweet and willing to walk us through all the different cuts of meat along with the right wine pairing. After thinking long and hard I ordered the biggest steak I could find on the menu, asked for it medium rare(came out more rare though than med-rare – no biggie), and got straight up caveman style with it – without compromising class or making a mess, so to speak… Everything here was f*cking delicious. Even the fries were cooked perfectly. And although it’s a mixed blend of hipster locals and cliché tourists, the vibe and décor inside feels like an authentic(rustic) Argentinean steakhouse… The kind of steakhouse you dream about that makes an impression on every tastebud. My dreams came true here.

Great place to eat excellent meat in Palermo. Recommended by different people when we arrived, we were very happy to experience it. The staff was nice and took great care of us. Seeing the meat being cut and cooked in front of us is awesome. We ordered bife de lomo(beef) and matambre de cerdo(pork) and the taste was amazing. I asked for my steak to be medium and it was just like a love it, so tender. We had mashed potatoes and salad as sides and it was also very very nice. First meal in Argentina was a huge success. I absolutely recommend this place!

After reading all the great reviews about Don Julio, we knew this was a must try during our trip to BA. We couldn’t get reservations on a Friday night because they were full, but because our hotel was close, we walked over at about 9pm and were told it would be an hour wait for inside, or we could eat outside immediately. Being the Minnesotans that we are, eating outside in 60 degree weather is no big deal. They also gave us blankets to wrap around us to keep us warm. Everyone waiting for tables was huddled around us drinking complimentary prosecco, so it was kind of hard to have an intimate conversation. We had a nice dinner, but I’m not sure if we lost out by not eating inside. Our service was only okay and the food itself was not the best we had in BA, although it was good. We had several servers throughout our meal, and it was hard to order wine with our meal after ordering cocktails to begin with. We ordered the chorizo, proveleta, bife de lomo, fries, and mushrooms. Our meal came to about $ 100USD for 2 people, but we ordered too much food. I would recommend Don Julio because I feel like its a classic Argentinian steakhouse, but I’d also make sure to give La Carniceria(also in Palermo) a try. We had a better and much cheaper meal there($ 45USD).

Excelente.

Don Julio Warm and original ambiance, with maitre d’ waiting for guests in Don Julio’s outfit, and walls filled with empty wine bottles. Service is efficient and very attentive. The bistek is awesome, especially the chorizo thick cut. The half portion, being thinner, was much less tender and over cooked, most probably because of lesser marbling. Therefore not a good choice. The grilled vegetables are OK, but unevenly cooked. The grilled provolone with tomato is a delicious appetizer. The wine list is extensive, and served at cellar temperature, which is a very unique nice touch in BA. It is really a fun place for dinner!

Best steaks and sausages we have ever had, and we have tried many in Texas, Italy, Germany, and elsewhere. Four of us went on the spur of the moment(no reservations), and were seated in the corner of the balcony with the best view of the dining room. We had bife de Lomo(tenderloin), bife de chorizo(sirloin), entrana(skirt steak), and Argentine spicy sausage. All were cooked to perfection. The wine list was extensive, but the waiter recommended a perfect Malbec. We should have stopped with dinner, but the pear-almond tart was out of this world, as was the flan and the tangy mousse. Bottom Line? About 50USD per person. I’ll do it again once I work off the extra pounds!

It’s the best«parrilla»(BBQ) you will ever have in your life! The bife de lomo is spectacular and the meat itself is like none I’ve ever had! Cooked to perfection :) For the side orders I’ve gotten their salads and french fries which were really good too. And of course their wines are amazing as well. It’s pricy, but so worth it! This is a must try in Buenos Aires. Don’t even read through my review. Just do yourself a favor and just GO! You will not regret it. Best steak I’ve ever had outside of the U.S. Grab your fancy suit and take your loved one and just enjoy a really fancy steak dinner. Forget Mortons, Ruth’s Chris or other steakhouses in the US. This beats them all and here’s why: Service: Very attentive to all your needs. Servers recommendations should not be denied. Ambiance: Rustic yet fancy. Very elegant. Food: Steak and more steaks. Every want steak with a side of steak they have it and it will make your mouth water. Wine list amazing. You can’t go wrong with the local stuff. My tip to all you lovers out there(You can thank me later) Make a reservations for special night. Sit in a street table not inside(trust me) You have to soak in Buenos Aires the right way. Order a great bottle of wine(Come on she deserves it) Really taste it. Order small appetizer, order the rib eyed and something else. Order another bottle of wine but you can go cheap this time because it will go with the dessert. Gaze into your partner’s eyes and say«Are you going to finish that last bite?» Because the food is SO damn good!

Come for the asado, stay for the empanadas… There was absolutely nothing about my meal at Don Julio, that was not great. Our group of 8 people was courteously greeted by the staff upon arrival. They had our table prepared and ready to receive us. We started lunch with an amazing meat empanada. I know this is not their specialty but if you go there and doesn’t order one you will regret it. Follow by the empanadas we got salad, appetizers and french fries. By that time I was already happy and didn’t need any more food, but the best was yet to come. I should tell you I usually don’t eat a lot of meat. And even though I am Brazilian, I don’t go to steakhouses very often. Oh, but if Don Julio was a walking distance from my house I would. We got to try three different cuts of meat and there wasn’t one I didn’t enjoy. Portions were quite gigantic, and that is my only complaint. I wish I had more space in my belly to eat some more. TIP: reserve some time to eat calmly and peacefully. You shouldn’t rush your meal at Don Julio, and you should take your time to try as many dishes as possible.

We had our first and last meals in Buenos Aires at Don Julio! Our first was a late lunch on our hotel’s recommendation, but we probably wouldn’t have gone back had our last BA dinner not been a horrible experience. With one final lunch in town before our flight, we decided to return to Don Julio and go out on a high note. Our first meal was around 3 pm, but it seems like Don Julio(unlike many other restaurants) stays open all day to cater to tourists. It was busy when we walked up and we waited for about 20 minutes for an outdoor table. The customers seemed to be a mix of tourists and locals speaking a variety of languages; not all of the servers speak English, but some do. We sat inside for our second meal, which I personally preferred. Although the restaurant is 15 years old, the interior makes it look like it’s been there forever, with exposed brick, mismatched tile, and empty wine bottles signed by happy customers all over the walls. Dining outside is nice if the weather is pleasant, but you should at least pop in to use the restroom and get a look at the interior. The tables all have«tablecloths» made of cured leather hides, which is awesome and filled me with the desire to try this at home. We saw people ordering the short ribs, which seemed to be a house specialty, and decided we wanted that. We didn’t realize that we were seeing couples splitting a HALF portion. The full portion is huge! But it’s delicious and tender, so it’s actually not that hard to polish off. I loved the grilled veggies, which come in a smoking-hot cast-iron pan that keeps them warm — it’s a tasty mix of tomatoes, peppers, onions, eggplant, mushrooms, sweet potato, and potato that’s so thick and hearty it’s almost like meat in itself. On our second visit, we had the lomo, which is not as overwhelmingly huge but is still thick and tender. The wine list has plenty of Argentine Malbec, of course. I liked the inexpensive spumante by the glass as a light afternoon drink, and the Aperol Spritz was a delightful citrusy cocktail. My boyfriend ordered a glass of the house red and it cost AR$ 130, so watch out for that! It was a very good wine that he enjoyed, but we might not have gotten that if we’d known it would be the price of a whole bottle at other parrillas. The service here is really the outstanding part of the experience. It seems like there’s an army of servers and busboys just waiting to refill your glass, whisk away plates and crumbs, and ask if you need anything else. Watching them expertly mix a green salad or carve and serve the steak is a marvel of efficiency and grace. I think this is just about the best, most professional service we’ve ever had at a restaurant anywhere! I only wish we had a steakhouse like this back home. If you’re in or near Palermo, try Don Julio for pleasant atmosphere, great food, and amazing service.

Went with a group of 8 on a Monday night. We waited for a very long time but were treated well while we lingered(with many others) on the sidewalk. They served us champagne while we waited etc… good move. What can I say… the food was INCREDIBLE. I had a T bone and a sausage app. The salad was great. The pastas(ESP the ravioli) got rave reviews from my companions. This is a must stop if you’re in town. Worth the wait.

We needed somewhere that we could dine at early(by Argentine standards) since we had a shuttle to catch to tango at 9 pm. Don Julio was the perfect choice. by 8 pm the restaurant was already packed with tourists(because only tourists eat this early). Don Julio is the favorite of many locals and tourist so we were excited to give it a try. While we did have a fine meal here, in our opinion it was still not quite as good as La Cabrera. While eating there is a fun experience, one that you want to spend a long time enjoying, Don Julio is more of a standard steak house. No free sides here like they give you there, but they did serve a delicious chimichurri sauce which alone might be worth coming for. And the most important thing to compare — the steak — per my bf who eats a lot of steak — was still more flavorful and better at La Cabrera. But good here also. I opted for the chicken ravioli which was outstanding. It was a very generous portion(see my picture) that I couldn’t completely finish. We also ordered a side of grilled vegetables that was also outstanding. Highly recommend getting it as a side. We let them know that we were in a bit of a hurry and they accommodated us by by hurrying our meal along, which I really appreciate(since it is not the norm here). By the way they gave us a 12:1 rate on USD which was about as good as we were able to get anywhere.
