Half Moon Brighton

Talk about picking the wrong moment to visit a pub — I came here one Saturday afternoon and it was absolutely packed. It turned out that the local chapter of the Liberal Party was having a pre-​selection meeting and I had found myself right in the middle of it. Mind you, it doesn’t get as packed as this normally, though I’ve only ever been here once before. It’s actually a pretty nice place to come for a drink, though it is fairly pricey, and the place looks pretty flash as well. They do have a nice beer garden, and a decent range of craft beers on tap (which is always something that I look for in a good pub, as well as the beer garden). I’d probably come back here, though I tend to rarely find myself down in Brighton.

Great for a catch up, right next to station, good wine list a little pricey, where black as it is actor and out of work actor central, watch out for teh local stars as this seems to be the place for actors to visit. I must say it is very hip and way to hip for me, but great if you want to people watch. Food appeared to come out looking very appealing, good service and I would go back but need to find that black Tshirt and jeans…

I have been to the Half Moon many times for coffee and cake, but this was my first time for dinner. The dining room is in a separate area, which helps to keep the noise down. There was a private function party (with DJ) in the next area and we didn’t even know until we were on our way out. Décor is quite up market without being over the top and the clever use of glass walls makes the room look bigger than it is.
The menu had all the ‘pub food’ regulars, but prepared to an up market standard. I had the Wagyu Beef Burger which was so tender it basically fell apart. The delicious Orange and Vanilla Brûlée was soft and creamy.
The only bad point was the service was a bit slow. Being a Saturday night, they were packed (which is not an excuse) and we had to ask when how meals were coming. Having said that, the staff were friendly and attentive.

Nice upscale bar and restaurant. The food I had was good and they have a decent selection of beer and the bar staff was helpful and friendly. Not exactly a place I would go to a lot but it gets pretty busy there on Thursday nights and the weekend, so if you live in Brighton I suspect you have been there. Need to go back and try some more food. I ate from the bar menu and the wings are a good deal and pretty delicious. My friend got the Poutine and that was not very good. They have deals almost every night for food so you can sometimes get a decent deal on dinner if you are interested. Right next to the middle Brighton train station so pretty convenient if you are going to or from the area. Not bad at all but not really memorable either.

It was a quick stop for lunch by me and a couple of mates in this pub.
I’ve been meaning to try it out for quite some time now as I’ve heard its praises from many friends. Let me tell you, it definitely lived up to its expectations. I was expecting your typical Melbourne parma and footy pub. That is not what I got.
Half Moon has got everything right when it comes to atmosphere and décor. They put a strong emphasis on the whitewash with timber look that is very popular in Melbourne’s café scene but they’ve kept those rustic bricks and added some pretty little tiles. Don’t judge me on my wording, I’m not interior designer. Still looks amazing though. A+
It is a little bit fancy and that means it’s a little bit pricey. Not too bad though, I’ve kinda decided that my $ 20 was worth it now as I look back on it. It was very delicious. I could sure go for one right now. Mmm. Might go make some toast after this review. Mmm. Damn, I want that pizza. Where was I?
Beer! I am an avid lover of craft beer and Half Moon definitely tickles my fancy. They boasted a large variety from Colonial which almost knocked my socks off. It’s not often you find a pub in Melbourne that knows good beer. It’s not often in Melbourne that the pun actually has Kölsch on tap. Mmm-​mmm. Nom Nom. I caught sure go for one right now. Mmm. Damnit Half Moon, stop doing this to me.
Great pub that definitely sets the bar for service, quality and atmosphere.

I was disappointed with the service. I felt the the food was under seasoned. I had the watermelon salad, quinoa duck sald, ceasar salad, barramundi, and their risotto special. To start I had the pickled watermelon salad which was very disappointing. The combination of flavors did not flow well. Now The ceasar salad was over dressed and the dressing was very bland and acidic. The quinoa duck starter on tne other hand was the highlight of the evening. It was perfectly cooked and the quinoa was perfectly seasoned which complimented the duck perfectly. The risotto on the other hand was a tomato based risotto which under was half under cooked (beyond al dente) it was crunchy and lacked flavor or seasoning, which is a true travesty when it comes to a risotto. Now the barramundi turned out to be perfectly seared and seasoned as well as the vegetables that were in this dish. Now going back to the service. We were never asked if we wanted a refill in our drinks. In this case it was wine. They didnt come and ask us if we wanted anything else such as coffee or dessert. In order to pay our bill we had to get up from our table and go to the counter and ask to pay the bill.
Truly sad about my experience at this establishment.?

What a great place to spend the day away with great company.
The choice of beer and food will keep the tastebuds entertained. You can chose between the moden inside area, the semi enclosed beer garden or sit on the footpath.

I went here a few times while staying in Brighton– and I have to say hats off to Half Moon. Good beers, friendly enough service, and delightful food. My mom and I had some flat breads and some sort of Italian dish that wasn’t amazing but not terrible.
Mostly this place was popular on Fridays and Saturdays. A co-​worker and I grabbed a few drinks after work and there was some good looking talent. I would definitely go back.
