Pear cider, apple cider, and pear cider sorbet! This place isn’t a big winery like some of the vineyards in Yarra Valley, nor does it have huge signs that would point you to this place off of the main road, but it is def worth the visit! They don’t offer the conventional Yarra Valley wines(in my opinion); it reminded me of a hippi-take on a vineyard. We sampled two of their sorbets and loved their pear cider sorbet more(light, airy, refreshing, and not too sweet). We also loved their pear cider so much(you will never taste anything like it and no, it isn’t super girly) that we bought some to take back home(TO the U.S.). So take in the beautiful apple trees(they totally grow different down under) and try something different! *Not trolling with tourists was a BIG plus.

Punt Road is a lovely stop on a winery tour, even more so if you’re in the mood to mix it up and try a cider. Here you can find Napoleon apple and pear ciders, both are delicious yet I lean a little more towards to the pear myself! If Punt Road is a stop after a few wineries already(and maybe you’re already feeling one too many glasses/tastings of wine), a cider can be quite the refreshing option. If you’re with a large group(more than 10 people), it’s highly recommended to call ahead. Punt Road is not as large as some of the other wineries in the region therefore I feel it’s better suited to small groups and couples. The positive of its smaller size is more personalised attention from the staff and less wait time. The staff here are very knowledgeable about their products.

Punt Road should definitely be on your list if you’re touring around the Yarra Valley. You will be warmly welcomed and taken through a tasting by the friendly and knowledgeable staff who are a great source of local information. Need a recommendation on where to eat or continue your tasting experience? They’ll hook you up. My picks at the cellar door go to the Cabernet Sauvignon(for the cellar), the Botrytis Semillon(or my sticky wine loving Mum) and a case of the apple Napoleon cider for my fridge. The best bit? You can keep those cider supplies high with their wine club — The Punters Club — which is a great way to keep up to date with what they’re producing and also get first dibs on great specials throughout the year.

For a close-in winery, Punt Road is a beautiful drive and destination. It’s small and quaint and has a great variety of wines to taste and take home. No cellar door here, but you don’t really need it. It’s just a cute, modern building, with a couple knowledgeable staff to pour till your heart’s content. The view out over the vineyards is nice, and early morning will greet you with a bit of a low fog. It’s not huge, so with many more than 20 people you’ll be squeezed for space, but for a small trip this place is great. My favorites: viognier(nice and crisp, not too fruity or sweet or dry), rosé(like a good red for summer), and their ciders(pear and apple).
