OMG! I’m addicted to banh mi and have been looking for a local place. Simply Sandwiches is it for Crows Nest. They’ve taken us aussies into account and simply post it as «pork sandwich» but you get all the trimmings — pâté, mayo, cucumber, shallot, carrot, chili(optional) and a generous serve of freshly cut roast pork complete with crackling on a fresh crusty breadroll. Om nom nom!!! A bargain at $ 7. They have 1 or 2 tables outside but you can go to the park next door for a lovely sunny nosh. My big tip is to arrive by noon at the latest as the line is out the door by 12:30pm(it moves quickly).

I bought a ham, cheese and tomato sandwich this morning at 10.30am. The bread was stale and the tomato under-ripe! This is unacceptable for a sandwich shop.

I used to be a big proponent of Subway: every trip would bring the opportunity for experimentation as a deranged food scientist. Tuna with jalapenos and ranch dressing? It sounds crazy, but let’s try it! Of course, being a franchise, the sandwiches tend to have a certain uniformity in the ingredients, which can be both reassuring if your find yourself in a foreign area and uninclined to sample the local wares but it can also be a little. .. boring. Situated across the road from Subway Crows Nest is Simply Sandwiches, a shop that does what it says on the tin. This is a simple takeaway sandwich store with several tables outside. Your best bet is to order and walk a little further up the block to the main grassy section in Crows Nest for some people watching and some natural light. The sandwiches are generally pretty basic but are thankfully very cheap, with most in the $ 5-$ 7 range. For a lot of the temps and young workers starting out in their first ‘real’ jobs, being able to easily grab a fast, healthy, and affordable lunch is a lifesaver.
