Welp, this place tends to get my entire paycheck when I go and for good reason– who could resist a $ 15 jar of organic fresh peanut butter or a $ 3 organic popsicle or the $ 15 for the large hot/cold bar serving(I always tell myself it’ll be good for lunch and dinner…) — I also tend to think that anything in this joint is surely healthy for me. Don’t think that’s true, but it’s nice to stuff your face while thinking«man, I’m healthy AF for coming here” — If you’re eating in their café I’d highly recommend their Paleo Super Hash, which is two poached eggs, spinach(remember, healthy AF), bacon and sweet potato fritters. Thank goodness this place isn’t super close to me or I would be in big trouble!

For someone who goes to the gym a lot and for the most part and is concerned about what he eats About Life is the perfect place for me. The place is a sophisticated, clean, modern and inviting go to venue for all the latest health foods. For someone wanting a complete organic food experience then About Life is your Mecca. I have been to some of their other stores around Sydney but this is definitely the largest of the stores. It’s boasts aisle after aisle of organic fresh fruit and Veg, baked goods, beautifully prepared salads, self serve cooked meals, organic paleo desserts but to name a few of their offerings. The produce is beautifully presented and it’s hard to go into the store and not be impressed by their wide range of offerings. The great thing about this place is they offer samples of some products as well so if you have any doubts this will make your mind up. While it’s primarily an organic supermarket they have a large Café located a the front which promises the«Complete Organic«Experience. The prices are a lot higher then what you will pay at your local corner café but the ingredients come from high quality sources. I decided to order the Breakfast Omelette and a Hot Chocolate. The Hot Chocolate was ok but nothing sensational. The Omelette took a little longer then I had expected to come out but when it came out I was really glad I choose this place for Breakfast. The Omelette I choose was the Charcoal Omelette which contained organic eggs(of course), mushrooms, cheddar and chia seeds. The colour was an unusual black colour hence the name Charcoal. It was absolutely awesome and the best Omelette I have had in quite some time. I was delighted after that delicious breakfast. It truly set me up for the rest of my day. Great venue for a healthy meal breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack anytime of the day.

This health food store is relatively new in double bay. If you love health food and organic food — this is the place to go for both grocery shopping or breakfast or lunch at the café. They sell organic fruit and veg, frozen fruit, organic chips, organic meats, protein powders, vitamins, youghurts etc. They also have a section where you can self serve frozen fruit, salads, soups, nuts etc. The only negative is that it is a bit more pricey than usual grocery shopping. I got lost in there — so many interesting things to read, see and try!

Talk about expensive. The prices are the only reason I’m knocking down the star rating. If you can afford this, definitely go for it. You won’t regret your purchases but you’ll also have sticker shock if you’re typically spend/budget conscious. My favorite part is the make-your-own cafeteria-style buffet that is healthy, unique, has loads of options, & feels like a steal. Grab a to go box and pay a flat rate for the size of the box while stuffing as much food & variety as you like. A fun way to mix & match & try loads of different dishes. Options include salads, pizza, & soup. The juice bar is cool & makes some solid smoothies. But nothing extraordinary. Small vegetable section but each produce I got– tomatoes, bananas, apples, & oranges — tasted a lot sweeter & flavorful than normal. Or maybe it’s a psychology thing since the layout is adorable & the absurd prices make me thinks it’s superior quality. They also have a dispense your own frozen fruit section & nut section, so you pay by weight. They have nut grinders to make your own fresh almond butter & peanut butter. So cool! Comes in a cute glass jar & lasts up to 6 months. Even cooler! Limited ice cream supply that only serves vanilla. Makes it easier for you to decline the guilty pleasure. Small selection of house goods like toilet paper etc., all that are environmentally friendly. There is seating that is inviting & relaxing, good for a neighborly catch up. I always look longingly inside this place as I pass by. It exceeds all expectations & is truly a unique shopping experience.

Very much based on the Wholefoods(USA) model, Aboutlife is an all-purpose, all-encompassing organic and wholefoods megamart! About time Sydney got a reasonably priced organic grocery store. The fruit & veg section is surprisingly small given the size of the store but all great produce and cheap by usual organic & even by some non-organic standards. The grocery section has everything of this type of food you could possibly want and again, at probably 70% of prices you’d pay at Macro. I creamed my jeans a little over the DIY food bars and if I wasn’t determined to cook last night I would have hit that shit with relish! You can make your own noodles, soups, mix & match from incredible salads… I’m drooling at the memory. The complex also houses a 100 seat café which I’m reliably informed has amazing coffee. I’m also reliably informed by the same source(my sister) that they must put crack or something in the takeaway rice. Cheese, meats, frozen pies, flowers, all have their own amazingly well-stocked section. I’m extremely happy to have just learned they’re expanding to other locations and there are already(smaller) stores in Rozelle & Bondi Junction.
