I’ve never even heard of this type of restaurant before. Situated just off Old Northern Road as you come off the overpass, I often pass it as I drive home to my Albany Creek digs. We went there on a Monday night for their ‘Mad Monday’ special where you can indulge yourself with 15 dollar mains. So the deal with a Stones restaurant, is inspired from an ancient mongolian method of cooking on hot stones. Which is exactly what is done here, but you cook your own. I went with the old folks who were initially apprehensive to the idea of cooking their own meal. But there is a particular charm of it that eventually wins you over. I ordered the minted lamb, which was definitely minted. Served on a side plate in diced up pieces, I threw the entire thing onto the sizzling 300 degree stone in front of me. And yes, we all tested ourselves to see if we could touch it — don’t do that peeps, it hurts. Overall the meal was big, condiments — a plenty and service was lovely and pleasant. The waitresses were clearly junior and not too experienced, but not in an ‘I hate gen Y’ way, more of a ‘I want to help you clear the table’ way. I would recommend trying it and seeing if it is your cup of tea, but maybe go on Mad Monday, incase you prefer not to sit 20 cm away from a burning hot stone.
