Great trivia every Wednesday night with $ 10 Parma(although be warned it does run a little late for a «school night» — around 10:30)! The atmosphere outside with mood lighting and lanterns is great for a causal weekday hang out with a group. The food isn’t mind blowing but it’s reasonably priced pub food and the portion size is decent. The wait for food gets a bit crazy when its busy though, so don’t come starving on a weekend.

This place is a local favourite of mine. I have been there many times over the last five years but have never had the chance to have a meal! The beer garden itself is as good as you can find in Fitzroy and there’s an ok selection of beers on tap. Don’t go expecting a craft beer extravaganza though(for that head over the road to Forester’s Hall!). The food is typical pub grub and it is good. Chicken parma — yes please! Head there on a Tuesday and this bad boy will set you back just $ 10 :)

I have certainly been to this place before, however before I went off to my bookgroup I decided that I would pay this place another visit, and it certainly was well worth it. There is quite a large beer garden out the back(though if it didn’t have one then calling it the ‘Fitzroy Beer Garden’ would somehow defeat the purpose). Okay, the beer is a little pricey, however the food certainly isn’t, especially the Porthouse Steak for $ 16.00. That is probably the cheapest steak that I have seen outside of steak night. The inside of the bar is also really impressive, with little objects covering almost all of the wall space.

The former ‘Funf’, and ‘Yelza’ before that, the re-branded Fitzroy Beer Garden hasn’t changed much from it’s previous incarnations aesthetically or lay-out wise, the new name just emphasising its best feature front & centre. Was there on Saturday night and it was pretty busy but also fairly laid back, a good mix of types, and no real dickheads. Only issue was that every single person but me seemed to be smoking in the beer garden. Can’t wait for the day us non-smokers can claim back some of these great outdoor bar places. Had some tasty pints for around $ 8, which for a Saturday night is pretty staggering($ 8 pint anywhere these days around Melbourne is pretty good). With Forester’s Hall now open right across the road having ‘beer’ in their name also gives some cohesion to this corner of Smith St, and I’m sure we wont be the only ones to start at FBG in the afternoon sun then drift across the road to sample the impressive beer range at FH this summer.

Yes, I have already visited here, so it wont count for my Unilocal 2014 Challenge. Not a new review nor new venue. It’s still essentially the same as Sentido Funf? But it’s just re-branded. Once again, This is the place for large groups and it’s usually more than not busy. Tap beers, and a average everyday kinda drinks selection, it’s got that uni student-bohemeian-hipster-big group catch up kinda vibe to it. Other patrons can snub you, so it doesn’t seem like the place to facilitate friendly conversing or talking to people outside your friendship groups. It’s a bit clique-y but I think that’s just the way it works out here. Super busy at night.

The Fitzroy Beer Garden is a casual neighbourhood bar and, as the name suggests, does indeed have a nice beer garden. They are also good at accommodating larger groups, which is when I’ve visited the bar. They have reasonable happy hour prices for basic spirits(but no well tequila), beer & wine.

was here for a huge group event. they have nice few areas that can be booked for larger groups(as was our case). the location is right in the fitzroy — very convenient. I think there is also a back patio which I didn’t get to. the bartenders were friendly and yeah I like this place and will be back and more reviews to come.
