Service was good but that was about it. Pasta was runny. Seafood chowder was like thick milky mush. And to top it off the Parmesan cheese had a dead bug in it. When we let the staff know they just cracked a joke and laughed.

I came here for dinner last night and was impressed by the extensive food and beverage menus. The drinks were very reasonably priced and the food menu a little on the expensive side, so they balance each other out. I got the baramundi with extra chips instead of the coleslaw and it was cooked beautifully. The view of the sun setting over the water was very nice. Would definitely eat here again.

Joes fish shack was yummm, my partner had the stuffed prawns and chips and he said it was awesome, they are filled with cheese and bacon and herbs! I had a chicken ceaser salad with chicken which was huge! But delicious! I do find it a bit pricey as that and 2 drinks cost $ 80. But great few and awesome vibe :)

A classic Freo fish restaurant located by the water — a must visit. Cute interior with all your cheesy fisherman finds but a view to keep you occupied and in awe; what I would do to cruise around in one of those luxury boats! Lots of food options; primarily seafood based with platters being great value. Seafood was fresh and service was friendly and efficient. This beauty is also located in the entertainment book; even more of a reason to get an extra dish or two!

Had lunch there on Good Friday and was very impressed. Had a look at the other seafood places nearby and being a public holiday they were very busy so decided to go with Joes as it was not as bad. Plenty of tables and only had to wait a minute or two to be seated at a great table with a view. Our order was taken within about 5 minutes and after asking for some water our drinks arrived not long after. The food came after about another 10 or 15 minutes and we were very impressed with the quality and serving size. Went for one grilled whiting and a standard meal size fish and chips which came with 2 very large pieces of battered fish, a generous serving of chips and a small bowl of coleslaw with each meal. Both fish servings were cooked well and were fresh. Service was excellent and we were asked on at least 2 occasions if everything was ok and if we needed anything. I also noticed that other meals that were being brought out for other patrons were very generous sized servings so if you’re a big eater you won’t be disappointed. We were also pleasantly surprised when we went to pay the bill as it was less than what we expected to pay. All in all I’d recommend Joes for a good seafood dining experience.

Such a cool place, right on the waterfront. It’s not formal and you can wear your flip flops and the waiters are attentive and the food is tasty! I asked for our group of 5 to be seated by the window and they happily obliged. I just loved the simplicity of it all — it’s a bit like a shack but a cool one with interesting decorations and very clean and fun. Good value for money.

How you like Joe’s Fish Shack depends on your expectations. If you expect anything of the quality of its neighbours, then you are in for a rude shock. However, if you recognise Joe’s Fish Shack as simply a cheap fish and chips shop, then it is an average option. The food is edible if too oily, but if you are strapped for cash, then it is at least a step above fast food joints.

The famous cheap option on the water, Joe’s Fish Shack is not as expensive as Kaili’s or Cicerellos and definitely not as much of an institution but its not so bad. The food is much cheaper and they still have cold beer options and the bonus of sitting on the water taking in the sunshine. Don’t get me wrong, I would rather go to Cicerellos and take in the atmosphere with some grilled Baramundi but if you are looking for some cheap fish and chips to keep you going then you could do much much worse. Their coleslaw isn’t so bad either.

Maybe it was a bad experience(hopefully), but I’m not a big fan especially since they’re surrounded by some of the best fish and chips shops in WA! The fish and chips were greasy, the service average, and the atmosphere lacking. Next time I’m in Fremantle, I will be going straight to Kailis Bros!

Better than I expected! Long time fan of Cicerello’s next door, but this place is pretty good too. Love the peppery batter on the fried fish.
