This is a hidden gem in Gawler — a mix of Asian flavours and styles. The store is hidden at the back of the cinema car park next to a video store and pizza shop. Walking in you could almost mistake it for a takeaway only shop as there is a ‘waiting room’ of sorts and the takeaway counter but to your right is a kitschy style small restaurant decked out to look like a bamboo hut! Very cute. Menu is large and easier to order with the number rather than the name so they can just write it down. Full table service except to pay :) there is a really old fashioned surcharge for using credit which was annoying but liveable. The food was lovely except my bean curd with veggies was lacking bean curd and was more veggies with bean curd. Tasted amazing and hubby loved his Mongolian beef. We also had the added entertainment of an arguing couple next to us who were not happy with anything — including their choice of restaurant! He was blaming her she was blaming him — dinner theatre! A lovely night out and we will come back.

Well priced with lots of options, Thai, Malay, Chinese! The restaurant is decked out like a big hut with little huts inside it, it’s truly an 80s wonder preserved in time. We had banquet number 1 from the menu. Whilst the names will never come back to me, they had all the fast food Asian classics, crispy beef, lemon chicken, soup, stir fry. All very pleasant. They all took a very long time to come out and people who ordered mains instead of the banquet were served either well before or after others, it made for a very long meal. They had pretty much none of the beer on the menu which became pretty amusing when trying to select a beer. They couldn’t tell you what they had or didn’t until you asked for it and they went to search for it. They also wouldn’t split a bill, that’s a pet peeve of mine with small shops. There was a pretty hefty credit card surcharge circa 1992.

Is the décor kitch? It sure is! Don’t let the appearances fool you, the food is great. We particularly enjoy the spicy prawn soup and rendang curry but there is lots on the menu to enjoy. Very casual and pleasant service, it’s a favorite destination for date night.
