After being rejected by Flying Fajita Sisters on a quiet Saturday night, my boyfriend and I ventured down the road in search for something to eat. Saigon Saigon immediately caught our eye with its bright red lights, fancy ambience and the amount of people in the restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted and seated by a friendly waiter. The initial table we were provided with was a little too large for two and seated in an awkward area of the restaurant. Unhappy with the table we were provided with we asked the waiter if we could move to another location. Usually most restaurants will say no or will loathingly allow such a request, but not Saigon Saigon, the staff were more than happy to accommodate our request and we were moved to a much nicer table for two in the corner under the romantic red lanterns. The food is not as authentic as you would get from the local restaurants in Bankstown, Cabramatta or Marrickville, the prices are also more expensive. However, given the location of the restaurant and the ambience, this is expected. The food is still very tasty with the mix platter being large enough to satisfy two as a main meal and the soft shell crab is very delicate, flavoured and crunchy. The fried ice cream dessert was presented immaculately with lovely messages iced onto to serving plate. The wine was also cheap, tasty and plentiful for a romantic Saturday night dinner. I will definitely visit the restaurant again for the food, wine and friendly service. I absolutely recommend it for a first date or a romantic dinner.

A friend and I stumbled across Saigon Saigon while walking Glebe point rd looking for something to eat. We love vietnamese but hadn’t been to this one before. The short story is that we had a great time here. The food isnt the cheapest but I felt that the price matched the quality, and you’re also dining in a room that people have put a bit of thought/money into decorating. Also the service was well above the standard you’d expect from your regular asian restauarnt. From putting down my name for a table before we went for a drink, the waiter remembered and used my name when he was at the table which kind of shocked me as waitstaff just dont usually take that much interest. Also the other staff that served us were great, filling up our wine(again something you don’t expect when you BYO). The food was tasty, we really liked it, and we’ll be back!

I assume that most walkers-by were drawn to Saigon Saigon by its bold red exterior and hip design just like I was. It is probably one of the most aesthetically recognizable restaurant on Glebe Point Road because of its façade. I understood by its name that this was a Vietnamese restaurant. I was told by someone that it claims to use the finest locally sourced ingredients. So I decided to go for dinner. The inside is just as audacious as the outside, with glowing red Chinese lanterns and black bamboo around. The prices here are pretty high for Vietnamese, which I hoped would correspond with the quality of the food. While the service was satisfactory, the dishes were definitely overpriced and not well thought-out. I had a curry that was so bland, it almost tasted watered-down. I’ve had curries that were infinitely better and for much less than the $ 20 price tag here. Lesson learned: the phrase ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ applies to Saigon Saigon. I won’t return.

I always forget about Saigon Saigon and then a night rolls around when we feel like non-greasy Asian and Saigon Saigon becomes the obvious choice. The restaurant is a big splash of red with hats hanging on the wall and bamboo partitioning the space. The staff are incredibly attentive(perhaps a little too attentive, filling out water glasses every 5 minutes). I suggest sticking with the chef’s specialties. The mixed entrée($ 18) includes summer rolls, satay chicken, grilled prawns and fried prawn wonton. The summer rolls were nice and fresh but the sauce is really strong and quite odd. The prawn wonton was delicious and the satay and grilled prawns were good too. I would highly recommend the Salt and Pepper Squid($ 19). I order it every time and it is oh-so-good! The Chicken Curry($ 18) however was a let down. The flavours were bland and the sauce was very watery. Other people at the table thought it was ok but I was less than impressed. Although Saigon Saigon is run by a Vietnamese family, it feels like an Australian take on the cuisine rather than being 100% authentic. For a more authentic and budget friendly night out I would suggest Lien further along Glebe Point Road.
