Hyde Park Bakery was recently sold. The new owner wasted no time sprucing the place up. It’s looking a lot fresher and more relevant to the area now. Prices have gone up too. Cheese and bacon rolls are now $ 2.50, previously $ 1.20. Pity, really. I don’t think they got the price right on this one. Emailed with a query recently. No reply, several weeks down the track.

Getting me caffeinated in the morning makes me a pretty happy person, getting a coffee in me that tasted GREAT in a generous portion on a PUBLICHOLIDAY wow guys just take my money. But in all seriousness great place, space for daaays and dog friendly front. Grilled sandwiches were a highlight. Great spot.

The Hyde Park Bakery is close to home, which makes it a pretty regular stop. There is nothing in the world that makes me happier than a soft loaf of French bread with a crispy top. Or ciabatta, or turkish bread, or a donut… Ahem. Back to the business. The Hyde Park Bakery is fairly new, and is really nicely laid out inside. It has a spacious dining area where patrons can sit down with a coffee and cake, and doesn’t feel crowded like a lot of bakeries can. That’s not to say it isn’t busy though, because it almost always is. The breads have always been fantastic in my opinion, with the exception of a couple of baguettes I once picked up here. They were a bit tough and stale, which was a disappointment. Granted, I bought them near closing time, but I like to think that a bakery should never sell a product that is inferior, even if it is near the end of the day. Other than that hiccup, I’ve enjoyed my purchases from this bakery, most notably(and recently) a decadent chocolate donut on a Saturday morning. Now THAT’S the way to start a weekend.

Mini Eclairs? I’m in. Hyde Park Bakery makes a great range of pastries, pasties, cakes, loaves and artisan breads. The store is large and has a café vibe — walking through scattered tables to the counter to peruse the offerings and then sitting down in the sun is divine. The bakery has your stock standard bakery offerings plus a few extras(lemon cheesecake-yum!) and makes up some yummy sandwiches for you to chow down on. I’m a big fan of their sweet pastries, eclairs, lamingtons, muffins, Berliners and Kitchener buns top the list and the bakery uses proper cream(no icky mock cream here!). The Hyde Park Bakery also makes cream cakes to order and will cater parties with sweet-as pasties, pies and sausage rolls. The bread is pretty good, baguettes, loaves and artisan breads are all on show here. Their white loaves are pretty nice but I’ve found their sour-dough and rye to be too dry for my liking. The Bakery also makes coffee for you on site like so many bakeries these days but like most of them, the coffee isn’t on-par with the surrounding cafes and stores.

Great bakery. Nice food, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Appears somewhat«reasonable» with pricing however the food was definitely more than reasonable. Sandwiches caught my eye as I entered however as it was very cold, I made my way to the warm food cabinet and picked out a nice chunky steak and pepper pie for $ 4.60. The pie was very nice, the pastry was superb, the gravy was good, the chunky steak was a real winner however they were a bit scappy on the mushrooms in the filling. Very nice range, lots of drinks and hot food. Will definitely go back here when I come by this way again.

I had a great idea today: let’s go to the new Red Door Bakery on King William Road. Unfortunately as we drove past it dawned on me that I hadn’t checked if this new bakery had actually opened yet… it hadn’t. My next idea was Mulot’s Patisserie, but their doors weren’t any more inviting, as white paper covered all their windows. I was out of ideas until I spied the Hyde Park Bakery in the distance. I figured they were new kids on the block, as I’d never come across them when I was living round the corner. A quick squiz at their Facebook shows in fact they are pretty new, and opened up in March of this year. But back to the goods. I was immediately drawn to their lattice shortbread pies, but I had a cravings for something savoury. It was a real dilema because everything in the cabinets looked delicious. I settled on a pumpkin & feta parcel and grabbed a shortbread pie to take home for later. I’ve spent years searching for a pumpkin & feta parcel to rival one that Michel’s Patisserie in DJs Food Court(they don’t do them anymore), sadly these weren’t the ones, but they were still delicious. I can’t wait to get back to try some more of their goodies. Everyone was helpful and friendly, and one of the bakers even came out to chat to a lady about their boiled chocolate cake, when they were made, and how long they’ll last. It was then that we noticed the cake stand offering sizeable tastings of this particular cake. If you’re in the area check this bakery out, I’m almost glad everywhere else was closed.
