I just ate something called The Hipster’s Breakfast, «with a sprinkling of quinoa» for extra hipster.” Not even joking. I whispered it when I ordered just in case. And you know I Instagrammed the daylights out of that meal because when in Williamsburg, right? It had huge portions of smoked salmon, haloumi, spinach, poached eggs and avocado, with a side of chilli flakes and a pinch of love. Probably. It was $ 18 bucks, which is spendy for brekky, but we are in McMahons Point, so double income no kids and such. We ate outside on the footpath. I people-watched, Minky dog-watched and hid behind my legs when an unsavoury mastiff or uppity poodle went by. I was so hungover I drank a mug of flat white like Bob Hawke drinks Tooheys New — head back, throat open, with uni students cheering you on. A highly satisfactory weekend brunch option. Pro tip: get a free main meal if you’ve got the Entertainment Book voucher.

Billi’s is my(as well as my travelling co-worker’s) favorite breakfast café in this part of the Sydney. The coffee is great, the outdoor patio is cozy and relaxing and the food is solid. I typically would get the Egg & Bacon sandwich and my co-workers would do the big breakfast and we were always satisfied. Will definitely return when I’m over there.

This used to be our go to place for simple egg-based brunches on the weekend — fairly priced, nice coffee, great OJ and gooey poached eggs. We never had any service issues; finding the staff quite friendly. Definitely a 4+ star place for me(for brunch; lunch not so much). However there has been a recent change of ownership — the man is friendly but has started making changes, not necessarily for the best. The coffee has changed to something I found quite unpleasant, our eggs were hard, and things just seemed to happen slower than they used to. Perhaps these are teething issues, but given the prices have gone up as well, we are unlikely to go back again — there is simply too much competition in the area.

«Can I grab a coffee to have here please?» Of course. «Shall I pay now?» Sit down and relax. Nice way to start an affair with a café, especially on a work day. That’s exactly what I want to hear as I sit down to slog out a lengthy document — better frame of mind and all that. That is until the Green Day rock song starts blurring on the radio. I’m on a pretty quiet street and it’s the last thing I want to here. Ho hum. Coffee’s good though. The outdoor area is casual and well shaded by the orning. The leafy tree lined street adds a bit of natural beauty to the place. Menu picks: Salt & Pepper Calamari with steakhouse chips and beetroot salad with spicy aioli($ 15.95) Chicken and Leek Pie with mash, peas and onion gravy($ 15.95) Granny Smith Apple Pie with vanilla ice cream($ 10.50) Great service. Good coffee. Homey food. Get rid of the radio or at least turn it down.

An exhilarating bicycle ride over the Harbor Bridge into North Sydney required refreshment. My friend and I passed by Billi’s and decided to try it out because of its European style outdoor terrace. Getting to know the area, I asked the owner about the history of the café. She explained that the café had been around for a while, but she acquired it about two decades ago and renamed it. The café serves traditional breakfast foods, sandwiches and salads. We decided not to eat only because a bike-ride on a full stomach would be terribly unpleasant. So my friend and I ordered two cappuccinos, which were average in both quality and price.
