Originally considering Chin Chin as our dinner option, we opted for Dumpling Sisters, as it’s just one street down from our hotel. The little storefront has a huge sign that’s hard to miss, something noteworthy for the directionally challenged(ie. me). The restaurant has quite a number of seats, most of which weren’t filled, which worried me a bit. The ratings for the place seemed positive — and having completely based my destination choices on Urbanspoon, Unilocal, and hearsay — I was hoping I hadn’t chosen a bad seed. The food seemed better than what I’ve had in Brisbane, though I can’t say since I havn’t had much Chinese food back in Brissy. The potstickers(7.8) were decent, as they had the nice crisp to the skin/wrap, though a bit thick and hard to chew as they cooled off. The meat was flavored well, but contained some bits of bone(or something that was hard) that lodged between my teeth. Not cool. Other than that, the potstickers were decent. The spicy wontons(7.8) did not taste authentic, but I would say they were ok. There wasn’t really anything special about them, but they were also decent — not overly spicy, and not topped with weird spices(which happens sometimes especially to this dish). Lastly, the guy-lan veggies(12.8) with oyster sauce were good, but really expensive for the portion! I was a bit appaled, as I expected a larger portion for a «main course.» They were also a bit on the oily side, but the veggies were crisp and tender, unlike the stuff I often find in grocery stores in Brisbane. We also ordered the green onion pancakes(3.8), which they charged me for but we never received, so I had to ask for a refund. It ended in a big fuss, and I was a bit irritated at how they handled the situation — especially how one of the«waitresses» handled the situation. I would definitely not recommend this place because their service is just outright terrible, which is a bit of a shame.

The décor is exactly like you’d find in China. Great quality food, fast service, big serving sizes and very reasonable prices. What’s not to like? Food is authentically a little oily. I was somehow hoping a bigger drinks list.

Décor is … totally non-existent. But the xiaolongbao is great and makes this place somewhere that definitely merits routine late night visits when you’re in need of that special hit. My advice: f you can’t be bothered waiting in an incredibly long and slow moving line to get into one of the other standard dumpling joints in town, give Dumpling Sisters a try.
