Not a bad little spot. I was at RPA and starving, so I popped down the road to get a quick bite to eat and I didn’t want to eat pizza, pasta, burgers or any asian noodley type carb-orama so I got some sashimi and edamame and I think I had some kind of spicy tuna thing. It was all good. I think I paid about $ 20.

Amen, a great alternative to the traditional noisy sushi trains! I also love the current promotion they have on: between midday to 3pm Tuesday to Friday; if you eat four dishes; you get your cheapest dish for free. Relatively quiet, although the service is nothing overly spesh. The food is just fantastic. The sushi is always fresh, and the fillings are rather flavoursome. Have tried their soft shell crab; although the crab was a little chewy — the sauce definitely made up for it. Some special and tangy sauce. Fresh avocado pieces, and I love the raw salmon. Chunky, filling and rather fresh. I love it how you can always get your hands on some great vegetarian sushi, and the eggplant is cracking! Really tasty and filling. Will go for the pumpkin next time. The chocolate mousse spinning on end on the conveyor belt is always screaming out for you to «eat me.» I will be back. Oh yes and I also love the beautiful Japanese crafts for sale near the front counter area as well. Shame about the weird service as you enter the establishment, yet delicious food at fairly reasonable prices.

Finally, an alternative to Sushi Train. Well it is a sushi train but it’s not Sushi Train. Cheaper than the well known chain this place does a train as well as meals to order. The selection is nice and different, and better value for money than Sushi Train. The chefs are Japanese trained and the sushi is fresh. The train is around in a circle so you can sit opposite people and have a group conversation instead of sitting in a row as if at a bar. This place has stood the test of time(ie been around for longer than 2 years) and is at the north end of King Street.

Another sushi place in Newtown! I’m running out of words to describe them all. But Kai is particularly delicious, with a great train that is big enough for a large group to sit around. They offer some wonderful, freshly made and piping hot dishes — such as the sushi beef roll — the sizzling slice of beef is wrapped around the rice and is wonderfully caramelised and tender. Another good one is the tempura prawns — not very original, I know, but amazingly juicy prawns encased in a crisp shell. Of course, they have all the usual sushi items that you’d expect to find, but they are good quality and freshly made. I particularly liked their spicy tuna roll, and they have a good selection of non-fish rolls which are also very tasty. The chef is apparently a properly trained sushi master from Japan, which would explain the excellent quality and presentation — it really is delicious. If you can, save a bit of room for dessert because their green tea ice cream is fabulous.
