Oh Saturdays. Love waking up knowing I didn’t have to set an alarm and having all day to do whatever I feel like. Well, some Saturdays I can do whatever I feel like. Today is a day for getting stuff done. First up on the list — getting the car serviced. We dropped the car in and were asked what we intended to do for the next hour. «Have breakfast» we replied. We were told to head across the road to Black Gold Café. Black Gold Café is a popular stop for locals, families, couples, tradies and car mechanics! The food is reasonably priced. The coffee is campos and they have bonsoy! Hooray! We both had the Veggie Black Gold breakfast which comprised of eggs, haloumi, avocado, mushrooms and tomato on grain toast. The servings are generous with the food almost falling off the edges of my plate. We were served little sachets of butter and tomato sauce on the side of our meal. Useful but shows this place doesn’t have the little extras it needs to get four stars. It’s the little things that count! Will happily come here again for a coffee or bite to eat next car service.

The perfect place to kill time in downtown Rosebery while your car is being serviced. Don’t wait for the car yard mini bus to take you elsewhere. Hit the foot Falcon straight to Black Gold Espresso and kick start the day with a Campos coffee… clearly a daily institution amongst locals. A steady stream of suits and tradies come here to get their morning grind before they hit the grind. Watch the world drive by from inside a sleek industrial fit out. Floor to ceiling bi folds open the place right up when it’s nice, but Mother Nature’s miserable today and the setting feels suitably intimate and cosy. Service is ultra friendly, fast and efficient. Food is more or less standard café fare… bacon and eggs… wraps… muffins and a tempting selection of gourmet sangas, like steak with caramelised onion on Turkish… It all looks super fresh and I doubt you could go wrong. … but the punters seem to be here for the coffee, and they’re onto a good thing. One mocha down my hatch, and it was good, so I’m up for round two. Besides, I’ve still got another hour to kill in downtown Rosebery.
