I have yet to taste chocolates this fabulous anywhere in Australia. It’s probably a blessing for my wallet and waistline that my Son no longer attends Rozelle Public School, because picking him up almost demanded an after school visit. Everything is made fresh, on the premises, and the smells are enchanting. I have not had one of their lime and Cointreau chocolates for at least a year, but I swear, if I concentrate, I can still taste it! The centres of all of their chocolates are, simply, to die for! That does it! I am going to have to swing by again this weekend! You should too! Make a day of it and visit Rozelle Markets first and fill up on a cheese and spinach gozleme before you go and buy some chocolates.

By far the BEST chocolates in Sydney! This family owned business based in Balmain and Petersham, take quality chocolates to another level. YUM! When my wife and I moved back from living in Paris and more recently Melbourne, the first thing we craved for that you can’t get anywhere else as close to tasting as amazing is Belle Fleurs’ ‘Lime & Cointreau’(white chocolate coating a with dark chocolate and lime & cointreau infused whipped cream centre). It really is amazing. They do sell their chocolates at David Jones(if you’re in Melbourne and want to try it) but it doesn’t compare to the experience of getting it fresh from the store. The shopfront displays are also another reason to visit. It always has fun, innovative chocolate displays that change during the seasons but especially look out during peak periods such as Christmas and Easter. Not only do they have handmade chocolates, but they sell the couverture(milk, white and dark) in bags from 200g upwards, single origin chocolates such as Peruvian and Costa Rica and other novelty shaped ones like a tea cup, mobile phone, coloured pencils and high heel shoes. Oh man, I’m craving some right now…

Another quality business that has been in business for a while here in Rozelle. If you love Guylian; in fact any of those praline type chocolates(especially the hand made varieties) then you will love Belle Fleur’s chocolates. Chocolate heaven, and any chocaholics eyes would light up. Even just writing about chocolate is making me salivate for chocolate right now; even for Belle Fleur’s: yet it is a pity as I am based right here, right now in Melbourne: 800kms away from such quality and fine hand made chocolate which can be made on request. In relation to the latter their shopfront chocolate displays are works of art in themselves, and would almost be good enough to feature in any art gallery to take a photo of. I did not think of this at the time; yet this is every reason for yourself to head to Darling Street and check it out. Chocolate houses made of Belle Fleur pralines; in tandem with chocolate houses and chocolate themes around Sydney(no kidding, saw a Chocolate Harbour Bridge once) then this needs to be seen to be appreciated, and for this quality chocolate to be tasted once and for all, and yes amen and enjoy.

Great chocolates but only for special occasions. They sell to a number of four and five start hotels but it’s the general public that go into this chocolate heaven. At Christmas they have smart prepacked boxes at exhorbitant prices but who can resist. The variety of special shapes and the melt in the mouth fillings ensure you keep going back. Several Australian animals for people who want a gift for overseas guests. See if you can get them home without pinching one or two. Each chocolate is a perfect morsel of perfect chocolate.

Refrigerated 24⁄7 in the summer to stop the giant chocolate hamburger from melting, Belle Fleur in Balmain, and its sibling in Petersham, is a palace of indulgence. Giant chocolate violins and seashells on the walls and on the shelves, thousands of tiny mouthfuls of chocolate in so many forms and flavours, this place is as sinfully indulgent on the tongue as it is on the wallet; with chocolate going for $ 103 a kilogram. If you’re a foodie with a sweet tooth, you’d better be well-paid or wealthy or something, because you won’t be able to hold yourself back. If you have good self control, even just taking a look around it worth the visit. Staff are polite and helpful, and can advise you on 3 generations worth of Belgian chocolate knowledge. This isn’t the only choclatier on darling street, so save up, join a gym, and make a day of it! Oh the wonders!
