I heard tell once of a story of corruption of the highest order involving the SMH Good Food Guide and Vittoria coffee which I am inclined to believe as every fancy, place to be seen type restaurant, no matter how good the food, serves this old school, Italian style, 80s-esque, swill. Yes swill. When I discovered this week that Moody Chef had not only moved conveniently close to the St Leonards office but they had undergone a hipster transformation complete with Quinoa, a graffiti wall and exposed brick I assumed they had picked up their game and changed their beans too. I couldn’t see that old-timey Vittoria logo anywhere(so 20th century man). So along with my lamb kofta balls and zucchini fritter I ordered a long black. One sip of that familiar earwaxy taste and I knew I’d been had. Damn you Vittoria. Pretty sure they’re owned by the mafia(stock our second rate beans or you’ll meet with an unfortunate event — that being exclusion from the Good Food Guide… and broken kneecaps). If they changed their beans Moody Chef would be a 5 star job. A rarity in the wastelands of St Leonards.
