You may need a second opinion or an alternative point of view. But this shop is definitely one that is very kitcsh and offers a different perspective of life. There are many long dresses and the appareil is that of bold and brightness. The lines are soft and the range selected to suit the tastes of one who sets out to impress, someone who does not cut any corners and who wants to set an exampliary image. I wouldn’t feel comfortable entering this store dressed in daggy clothes. Basically you have to prove yourself by expressing who you are. No one’s a mind reader around here, they won’t know until you show them. If you are looking for a daring new look, or want to see what kind of a statement you could make then check out the range from Grandma Takes a Trip. There are a lot of unique pieces that have a splash of nouse over them, and one of them might just be you darling.

The reason for my visit to Grandma Takes a Trip was to buy a dress for a 50s inspired party. I came to the right place in the sense that all the clothes were authentic and not just inspired from the era they came from. They were all labeled properly and the sales assistant was really helpful in choosing a handful of dresses which accurately reflected the 50s. She even gave me tips on how to wear my hair and on accessories. I was pretty impressed. The only thing that stopped me from making a purchase though was the price tag. Whoa, authenticity doesn’t come cheap! But if you’re willing to shell out the cash to look like you’ve been transported from the past for your next party, then this is the place to go. Actually why wait for the party, shop here if you want to channel the vintage diva in you!

Grandma Takes a Trip spreads her vintage selection over two levels, with tonnes of vintage hats on the upper level — perhaps even more than usual at the moment, with the Melbourne Cup fast approaching. They have a great name(one which makes me simultaneously smile and cringe as I image my own Grandma packing multiple hat bags, losing her balance and falling over), which for me supersedes the greatness of the clothes. Whilst they do have some beautiful items, many of it is a little ho-hum and when each of the clothes descriptions is preceded with«awesome»(e.g. «awesome vintage dress», «awesome pink polka top») you begin to loose faith in the awesomeness of the individual products. One thing that is truly awesome? They have a range of modern and vintage Halloween costumes to rent or buy.

This shop couldn’t be more appropriately named. «Grandma takes a trip,» INDEED! More like Grandma IS a trip! With a storefront that overflows with color, pattern and texture, this shop is chocked full of gems. Weather you’re searching for that perfect reconstructed 70s disco gown, or a lace frock circa 1950, this shop will likely have it. Another perk is that many of the items have been refitted in a way that suits most modern shapes. And please, don’t get me started on accessories. I saw a pearled clutch in here that I would have traded my first born for(probably best I’m not yet a mother). Prices are varied and styles come and go, but there’s always something worth oogling(or giggling) over in Grandma Take a Trip.
