Great little outdoor spot for lunch in the centre of Sydney, particularly as it’s overlooking Hyde Park, rather than a busy city street. There’s also plenty of shade, that helps on a warm summer day. I particularly liked the fact that most of the lunch options started with different salads, and then you pay extra to add«protein». This means there’s a lot of variety, including for vegetarians and vegans — would definitely recommend for visiting with your vegetarian friends! I ordered the Rice Noodle Salad, which was very tasty, and decent value at $ 14. Loved the sauce and roasted mushrooms with it. It was quite light, but just big enough. I noticed there are some previous complaints about service, but this should no longer be the case, as you now order at the bar. My meal then took about 10 minutes to arrive. I noticed they had a great drinks menu, although I was just sticking to the self-service water. In particular, the jugs(including jugs of Pimms) are discounted from $ 30 to $ 17 during happy hour! Will have to return one evening for that!

Such a cute place facing the park, but such poor services. Bah. We came on a Saturday morning, there was a rush of customers and we got seated at the same time as a few tables. We figured what we want pretty quick and the couple of wait staff were busy running sorting out the new tables, so I waved to a managery looking fellow who wasn’t attending to anyone and told him we’re ready to order. He then quite angrily told me off saying that the staff will come around to take my order when they’re ready, I responded that since they’re busy can’t he take my order because we’re in a bit of a hurry… he gave me two options, to get take away or wait. Hubby was getting quite hangry at this point(hungry because we can’t order our food, and angry because we can’t order our food!) so we got up and ordered takeaway coffee. At least the coffee peeps were quite apologetic while we were waiting for our coffee as they’ve seen what went down… Classic example of 1 bad apple spoiled the whole brunch(haha sorry i couldn’t help myself) managery fellow needs to be reminded the definition of hospitality

Landed in Australia in an hour or so, walked to this place because it looked super cute. I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich; my husband ordered the chicken wrap. I also got an iced coffee, and watermelon juice. Everything was amazing !!! We are staying here for 5 more days and we will for sure come back here again before we go back.

Despite being a Sydneysider I hadn’t been here before. It has prime location behind St James’ Station in Hyde Park. Great spot. It’s a bit grimey all over to be honest, but I guess that had to do with it’s location and indoor-outdoor set up. My food(scrambled eggs and avocado) was fine, just not anything special. Coffee was drinkable but again, I wouldn’t rave about it. It was a bit of a pain having to get up and help ourselves to salt, pepper, water, cutlery… But that’s probably being a bit precious. All day breakfast is a winner, and the food is fine, I just can’t find much to rave about. It might be more suited to its nighttime persona as a bar, that would be kinda cute I think.

This is a lovely spot — really the only viable spot for food and drink in any of Sydney’s city parks. The breakfast and lunch menus have changed a lot, and can be a bit hit and miss. The service is good and coffee is nice, I just think they could invest in a better café style cuisine to match the location.

Metro St James has a really good concept going on: it’s an outdoor pub. I’ve come here many times for after work drinks in summer, and it really is the perfect place on a hot summer night. I recommend you have a pastis, a French liqueur you can only get in a few places in Sydney. Their pizzas and French fries are very satisfying as well, and go well with these after work drinks. The place is good for groups, too. This time I came for coffee. Today is a sunny winter day and it’s such a pleasure to be sitting outside enjoying a cup of coffee on a bug, comfortable chair. The service is not the best but not the worst either. And it’s a place like no other in Sydney!

Nice place with plenty of shade on a hot summer day. French owned/operated it seems. Friendly service personnel, they even serve draught beer. Excellent little café in the CBD!

Nice quiet spot to sit back and take in the relaxing view of Hyde Park. Reasonable range of comestibles at affordable, not tourist prices. Friendly staff :)
