Est. 1788 according to the website and the menu, but I’m pretty sure it was just this year they took over from the old MoS Café. I love the layout of the place and how the entire front can open up on a nice day. I’ve been to the Governors Table twice now. The first visit was just to snoop around and grab a takeaway coffee when they first opened. What a mess that was. The waiter/barista took and filled each order individually and it wound up taking ages. I went back for lunch a few months later, and had a burger that blew me away. A «dry aged rangers valley beef burger, binnorie brie, beetroot aioli, house pickles» to be precise. Perfectly pink — and that beetroot aioli was nothing short of genius. At $ 24 without a side I worry Governors Table is going to price itself out of the market by charging Rockpool prices without having a Rockpool reputation. Considering how delicious that burger was, I really hope I’m wrong as it is something I would love to go back for. We split a side of hand cut chips & aioli which were another hit and a decent serve that we couldn’t finish between the three of us. Service was lackluster and it took ages to get the attention of our friendly server. Food alone would nearly earn Governor’s Table a 5 star rating from this Unilocaler, but service and pricing knock it down to a generous 4.

Staying close by at The Intercontinental Hotel on holiday, concierge recommended Governors for breakfast… We weren’t greeted initially after walking up and had to ask to be seated. The gentleman who appeared to be the manager brought us to a table… We waited for 6 minutes for a menu, I finally got up to find the manager to let him know that we did not have a menu yet. Nonetheless, the food was good. Service was extremely slow and not attentive. The waitress and waiter were nice however I think they have a poor manager.
