I stopped by early in the morning for pastries, and the selection was fairly vast. The pastries were pretty average for the area, but it’s good for representative breakfast baked goods in the area, as well as having the added benefit of being open fairly early. You could do worse than to come here and grab pastries.

Lagkagehuset is amazing in building a brand. The quality, however, doesn’t always seem to follow, at least when it comes to the cakes. Often you can’t taste the difference from Lagkagehuset’s cakes to the bake-off being sold at 7-eleven and supermarkets. Their bread is good, though. The price is not really an issue for me, but go for the croissant’s from 7-eleven instead(or from the nearby ‘Fransk Konditori’) — and do you really want a high quality cake, then go to fx Dessertdragen in Copenhagen K.(where you can even meet the bakers themselves)

Can’t pass on having Danish pastry when in Denmark, can I? Snail is the specialty and Lagkagehuset stores sell nice direktørsnegl(director’s snail) among other things. Compared to North American danishes, the homeland edition has a more substantial yet still flaky and light dough, lots of cinnamon and a hearty sprinkle of sugar between the layers, topped(and bottomed) with good quality chocolate. Mmmmmm, a snail and a coffee makes a perfect breakfast or snack. There are several locations across the city, consistent quality. A note to travelers, if you are flying through CPH and want to try this danish specialty, Lagkagehuset airport location labels these snails«chocolate buns», perhaps just to confuse foreigners since Danes know exactly what they are. Hope you will have a chance to catch a snail.

is this really a perfect snegl? so much sugar. very soft, oily, super sweet, like a compressed cinnabon with too much sugar for my tastes.
