There are some beautiful examples of Danish golden age(and beyond) works. The regular admission is 75 kr(Wednesdays free), which is somewhat steap considering the nearby Statens Museum for Kunst is always free and has many works by the same artists. Still, there are a few wonderful pieces in the DHS collection. Although SMK has many Anna Ancher pieces with her signature soft, light-filled rooms, DHS has one of the best: the girl standing at the kitchen sink silhouetted against the golden light. Even better, there’s also a beautiful portrait of Anna by her painter husband. I don’t think this museum is for everyone, it doesn’t have the architectural wow or collection size as other Copenhagen art museums. But, I’ll say that if you really enjoy the Danish section at SMK or Glyptoteket, you’ll probably enjoy DHS. I got through the whole collection in about an hour or so, including the special exhibition.
